It is hard to determine, or really even estimate, what the CRD-8speed numbers will look like as far as mpg, hp, torque. The closest we can use to compare is the international 5spd CRD's being used in europe, australia, etc. However, the emission restrictions will cause some minor tweaks for the USA models. Plus when trying to compare mpg, you get stuck with conversions for imperial gallons, kilometers instead of miles, etc.

Bottom line, it is going to be pretty darn difficult to know any real world numbers for the USA models until Jeep releases those figures.

If I "had" to take a realistic guess, I would expect to see something like 22/28 city/highway mpg when it is finally released.

If the current version of the VM Motori 3.0 is already 50 state compliant, what emissions issues woudl there be?

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

They will probably have to add a urea injection system to meet US emissions. Every diesel vehicle sold here, besides the VW Jetta/Golf, have needed such a system to pass emissions.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

It will not make a big difference in terms of fuel economy. In practice an X5 (with 200kg less and the 8 speed) uses lees than a liter per 100km less than the GC with the 5 speed. It does make a difference at higher speeds where you need a wider spread of the gears but I don't think that these speeds are very interesting for people in the US. But I do expect the 8 speed to be much more responive, the 5 speed is rather "relaxed" (which has it benefits too).

So we might as well start speculating about the 2014 Jeep SRT ACR price.

I'm guessing $79k!

Autoblog: The other enlightening upside here is that these new-generation turbo CRDs aren't dirty. They'll get very down and dirty, but birds, bees and trees will love them to bits. The last-generation 2.8-liter turbocharged CRD from VM Motori in Italy used on that former Liberty remains a good engine, but this new generation has been designed to be 50-state compatible
