Retooling begun in the Body Shop a few months back. Major changes in Body, and the rest of the plant are slated for January. We're supposed to be down for 3 weeks. It sucks bc "Underbody" (where I'm at) has been running a program where the robots pull parts as if the '14s are already here, and it makes my job a lil more difficult. Less time to read the paper, smoke cigarettes, and talk to you guys. It was a preliminary change that allowed them to run '14 pilots when they want to without having to constantly change the program, and accommodates both sets of parts that'll be used until the WDs are launched, and things are universal again. But at that point we'll probably start doing pilot Wagoneer and Maserati stuff, so basically my job will never be the same.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

I'm co-signing the comment about build quality from a couple of pages back. I have had 4 Hondas and the irony is that Honda isn't being made as well as they used to be. Now that Chrysler is serious about stepping their game up (no offense), I can spend my money on this upcoming 2014 JGC and not worrying about being in the shop all the time. Now diesel or Hemi is the question...decisions, decisions.

This will be the question - indeed!

I guess in my case it will come down to the numbers. The CRD is probably going to be more expensive than the HEMI - so let's see by how much. I guess I'll have to figure out how many miles/month I have to drive to break even.

If Diesel would be less expensive than regular gas as it is in Europe, the decision would be a bit easier - also because the HEMI is actually several thousand $$ more expensive than the CRD.

I'll also have to figure out what these additives for the Diesel are all about, how much they are and how often they have to be applied. It seems that the HEMI is easier on maintenance.

I guess when it comes to features, both will offer the same - perhaps even the latest tidbit that was supposed to be "diesel only"...

Tough decision - no question about it.

The rest of the plant has already started the retooling process as well.

Hey thx man, that makes me feel so much better.

And to think, I could've avoided this! I had a sneaking suspicion something like this was coming, but signed up to keep my same job anyway. And now I'm screwed.

So if the order banks still open Dec. 5th and the plant is down for 3 weeks in Jan, we probably won't see/get a vehicle until sometime in Feb. Am I pretty close with this guess?

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Milous should have an official production start date pretty soon. IF he hasn't already posted it. Our in-plant production calendar ends Dec. 31, so we won't know until after we get back. I imagine the 3 week downtime will be added to the time we're already off for Christmas and New Years, and we'll immediately start building '14s when we get back. Body Shop is always first to report back, to fill the banks and prime the system, so I'll let you know when that happens. The date Milous supplies will more than likely be the day the first '14 is slated to roll off the line in Final Assembly.

As I've said before, there's a build-up time between production start, and shipping. They can sit in the yard for around a month before they BEGIN shipping. But if I had to guess I'd say the first orders will take delivery mid-Feb, to early-March at the latest.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Orange-ish paint color on WK2?

A few of us have been wanting the 14s to have the option of an orange paint color. Some aren't so sure what that might look like so I have dug up an orange color of a Range Rover as well as a H3:
I think it would look kick-ass on a Jeep. I know it does on the Wranglers.

If we're putting colors out there. This is my vote...Black Vapor wheels and this color would be my purchase:

. Only kidding. That's exactly what they need to be doing is adding in some interesting colors! It's kind of a neon blue. They shouldn't go as candy as the wranglers but I think we've seen enough gray and silver.
