All we know for sure is that powder puff blue and rugged brown are discontinued as well as I believe mineral gray and sparkley silver.

The wizard behind the curtain (Milous) will let us know as soon as he does.
Mineral Gray, really!

If true, i'm hoping they have some left over barrels of MG to have a "limited production" when the '14 s come out.

Don't worry, guys! The new Billet is just as nice as MG.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

The biggest complaint I have against the 2014 GC is the 8sp auto transmission that will be used in the 5.7 and other models. Apparently, it's the same 8sp that is used in current Dodge products (SRT, etc.). And early pictures of the 2014 GC interior indicate they are using the same electronic shifter. This means, when you shift, you're not actually shifting, but instead, asking the computer to shift for you. If you've got a software glitch or other electronic issue, you could be looking at serious failure, and if you're off-road, it's completely unacceptable.

It should have paddle shifters at the wheel. If so, most should be happy. I have them currently on an MDX, and they allow you to double tap to go up or down two gears at a time. I'm pretty sure I read the new 8 speed will have that feature.

Everything is electronic these days. They've been using drive by wire for years. When you step on the gas you're just telling the computer to tell the injectors to spit more fuel. The only way around it is a complete manual transmission which they're not going to do in a GC. I agree with you that electronics can be very unreliable at times.

Yup, they have been using electronic fuel injection now since what? The mid-late 80's?

This 8 speed is nothing new in this reguard, even the 5 speed auto in the WK I drive is "Tap and ask" as the system can still overrule the request to change gears.

We're still talking about superchargers in this thread?

BRB, I'm about to go look for a supercharger.

Be back in 75 years.

What do you think the five speed did?

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Actually Chrysler had an electronic fuel injection in 1957-58 (Electrojector ?).

Biggest problem I have with the electronics is that you can start the engine in neutral but not turn it off.

Wonder if there is an electronic inhibit when moving the shifter from D to R at 50 mph. Don't want to test though.

A friend of mine did that years ago when I was driving. This was a 1974 1/2 Ford Granada with the shifter on the column. He reached over and jammed it up from drive to reverse- I recall a skidding and clunking sound and I immediately put it in neutral, stopped the car and then I punched him in the face at least once.
The car seemed to be just fine (all things are relative though cuz it was already a POS!)
