I don't know what you're affiliation with Chrysler and/or Fiat is, but if you're familiar with the processes, you should know that new main shipping hub is right next door to JNAP. Chrysler bought the old ThyssenKrupp/Budd plant a few years back, and have been using its grounds as a storage/shipping yard for the Ram, Caravan/Town and Country/VW Routan, GC and Durango, etc.. This truck doesn't get shipped anywhere to sit. (Unless its hitching a ride by boat across the pond of course.) When they leave this yard it's either by train, or Cassens, United, or the newly formed "Chrysler Group Automotive Transport" are hauling them to dealers. As well as a few of the smaller car hauling outfits. And the "show" vehicles, like what was shown out in Vegas, are picked up right outside the plant.

As I've said before, after a build up, they can sit (here) for approximately a month, but that would only equate to early March at worst, in this scenario.

A few dozen S1's have been built (Limited & Overland), plus a handful of Black Summits, starting around 2nd week of September, though early October, all on weekdays. Don't see a start date for S2's yet.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

I hope the wheels on the 14's don't come close to what the 2013 Wranglers are sporting.

Is it correct that the '14 GC CRD will hit Aust shores in Q2 2014?
Cheers
I am hope you mean Q2 2013 as I am very interested in a CRD to replace my WJ . Be very interested in confirmation of export CRd dates

Yeah, if the diesel doesn't come out until a year from now, that's gonna be rough. Sending in my last car payment for my current car in a week.

Then again, I'm not a fan of the current spread between diesel and unleaded. I've never paid attention to diesel prices, so maybe this is normal, but right now diesel is $3.68, regular is $2.94, and non-ethanol regular is $3.29. It's certainly made me do some math on the logic of getting the diesel.

Wow that's cheap. Where are you located? Even with its premium, diesel is almost always the cheaper route.

SC, and I always get non-ethanol. 10% premium for 15-20% better mpg.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Figure the Pentastar/8 spd/4x2 will probably be close to 19/25. Since diesel around here is 20% more than regular ($3.16 vs $3.74/gal), diesel will need 23/30 just to break even. Add $5k to the purchase price and it goes up further.

OTH diesel is more of a Hemi replacement so gap is smaller. It is possible that production of the 8H70 will be slow for a while and they need to get rid of Hemis (was a special rebate on Hemis recently) so the combination may hold the diesel up in the US for marketting, not technical, reasons.

2013 Porsche Cayenne diesel AWD is almost exactly the same size, weight, power as 2014 WK2 CRD and has 8 spd trans. 20/29 EPA. YMMV.

I didnt even know you could get gas without 10% ethanol in it. I think its been atleast a decade since I have seen that here in the Chicago area.

If the decision between the CRD and HEMI would be that simple, it would make things much easier. However, if you throw in the expected surcharge of $2K (or more?) for the CRD over the HEMI, it takes significantly longer to profit from the higher MPGs.
