You're right.. I have been a bit of a Negative Nancy, haven't I?.. I apologize.. It's just that -- well - it sucks. And you guys were so amped abt a potential step up from the marvelous machine that was the 2011 WK2, and I feel bad abt what's become of this truck.

There COULD be a last ditch effort to do away with THAT grille and front clip, and retain what's current and add LED headlights and tails (like Ford did with the Taurus (<<< upgraded, but still the same "look."), but I doubt it. NAIAS is merely weeks away.

I'll try to be more optimistic tho.. As I've said, it HAS grown on me. But it's just that, the '11 WK2 never had to grow on me. It was a hit from day one!

I do agree with this. JGC was (I guess still is) one of the few SUV-s that looks like it has a pair. We are being flooded with "soccer mom SUV redesigns" like the new horrendous Pathfinder (RIP, current R50 model owner). I understand that people don't need hard core off road capabilities but at least they could make them look less van like and more classic suv like.

One thing that I like here is ... less chrome!!!

I agree with this completely. The 2011-2013 WK2 is the first car that has ever made me willing to give up my 1999 JGC, and that was primarily because of the rugged and bold exterior appearance. Basically, I thought the JGC looked like a MAN'S car shaming all the other SUV's. These redesigned JGC's seem to have rejoined the pack.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

As far as Laredo two tone grill look ... I hope, really hope that they just run out of paint on this test vehicle. It looks horrendous.

I'm not sure if I can get over the "zoom-zoom" smile ... I hope they will not slap a chrome in there, and make it a "chrome smile". Just like that person who replaced all his teeth with bling, bling. I guess there is some market for that!

For me the off road capabilities are important and I hope, I can compensate a bit less masculinity of my car

To become serious - I fully agree with that "less chrome" thing and I think, it depends on the colour of the GC how the new style will look like.

In my eyes, the chrome grill looked too dominant with dark colours but matched perfectly with e. g. white (which isn't my favourite col). I will order mine in the dark grey (mineral grey?) and I am happy with the new design.
I followed the projects of some colleagues here in the forum, who painted their grills, with interest and I am glad now that Jeep has done the work for me.

Can't wait to place my order.

PS: My Dealer had the opportunity to order 4 2014 GCs for internal use which should arrive in Switzerland in the first half of may 2013.

It seems Mineral Gray will not be available for the 2014 model year. "Billet silver" is rumored to be the only grey color available in 2014

My dealer in Geneva said I would be able to order during the Geneva Auto Show (early March), so this checks

I think I like the rear end quite a bit better. Not so sure about the front, especially the lower fascia. Less chrome is good!

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

I've been thinking about a body color grille since day one but occasional companion likes the chrome.

Leaking "spy" photos like this are common in the industry to get a reaction. Is idea beind "focus goups". This forum must be closely monitored by CJF.

Do think the grey grille (primer ?) on the Laredo is horrendous but may serve to distract from something else and easy to change for production. I would expect more of a Ram Tradesman black. May be the old politician's trick: leak something so bad that the real thing is a relief.

Do think they have diddled with the aerodynamics a bit, the cDA of over 11 is pretty bad. If can get under 10 (cd of .30) would be a big highway improvement for all powertrains.

Saw a note that Durango production was halted a few weeks ago but has been reinstated, Wagoneer would just be badge engineering so if Durango is back that may be why Wagonneer is delayed, too few sales for two models.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

The changes to the front may have less to do with the looks of the vehicle, and more to do with aerodynamics and NCAP ratings in the EU.

In order to meet CAFE standards, expect alot more emphasis on streamlining the body (this means air dams in the front, tweaking mirror and front facia designs to minimize drag, and vehicles that self lower at speed).

The redesign isn't hot. I will admit that I much prefer the current "look". But, I also was not a big fan of the WK body style preferring the WJ. However, given the features, I'll take the smiley face over my current rig hands down.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

You guys are... Wow.

This is the 2014. There is no going back or last minute changes.

That rear light bar which you guys are calling a license plate brow, is what it is and as I described who knows how many pages ago. None will be chrome. Well, I haven't seen one chrome one yet. I'm not sure if the Jeep logo is attached by us, they seem to come out of the box like that.

They did not run out of paint. The Laredo grille will be silver, but I'm not sure if they all will be silver. I'm glad the chrome has been toned down. When I was staring at a few last night, I couldn't help but think that the entire vehicle looks so much more upscale now, nowhere as cheap looking as before, no matter the trim level.

These pictures are terrible and do nothing for the Grand Cherokee at all. Tape or no tape. It truly does look better in person.

Stop being so negative, chevyboy and come over on C shift chassis so I can talk to you and give you some encouragement. It's not the end of the world you know.

Wait until NAIAS, for a true look.

Oh and regarding the Grand Wagoneer, Sergio made that statement before it got pushed back a year. Notice how old that article is. That is the status as of now but who knows? This is the auto industry. Things change every minute. Maybe we will see it?

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

It's actually not that much different other than the body contour line continues under the headlight. The all gray grill though isn't my style.

We'll see what it's like in person. The side angle view isn't the best to get the full picture.

There's pros and cons to all of it: less chrome can be good or bad for some, new guts, new radio/technology, different grill, etc...
The back end really isn't that much different when it comes down to it.
At least they didn't do what Nissan did to the Pathfinder. They turned that into less of an SUV than a Subaru.

For me, it's still MUCH better than my 2010 GC. I really don't like the bubble lights I have on it. Add in the CRD with the new guts & technology and hopefully a really bitchin' exterior color or an altitude like special edition I won't care at all about the grill. I just hope that the new interior colors aren't lame like they sound like they're going to be. Frost beige sounds really lame and Moroccan Sun sounds like it's going to be very reddish. Who knows, it may look great.
I still can't wait to see them in person and actually drive one.
My 2010 is a sluggish yet very reliable vehicle with OK looks so I'm still on the board for getting a '14'.
