Yes, I'm aware that tape surrounds the HL, masking the LED's. But I was referring to the 2 small horizontal strips below the inner portion of the HL's about 2-3" long (see arrows)...they don't appear to wrap around HL, just fill the gap between HL's and the grill plastic...they look like textured black plastic fillers.

Are you saying those 2 pieces are temporary?? It'd definitely look better if the bumper filled that space, instead of 2 filler pieces.

Not a dumb question.. Actually a good one. But in THIS case, mainly the reason is bc the camouflaged pilots were early in testing, and the bodywork was still being refined to get the aero numbers Padgett and others have spoke of. Now that they are basically in production form, as those were shots of S2 pilots, it's good marketing to start getting em seen. (<<< minor changes MAY be made from what the pics represent to what's built as "production," but not much.)

Make sense?

Idk if they're temporary, bc they're still using em.. But I agree the bumper should've filled that void. Or something a lil' more fitting. But this late in the game, that's prolly what's gonna be there..

...And I hope the HeadLamps are a 'lil more flush/ sunken in then what the pictures shows. That right light looks it would create -1 MPG of drag.

Fantastic! (I was actually going to suggest that might be it but decided not to since I think I did before.) So that's two days sooner than your previous estimated date. Great to have something set in stone though. When you said the order banks weren't going to open in December after all I was a little afraid that production might start later too.

IMO, they should have integrated some other LEDs there - side indicator lights perhaps?

That would have been a nice contrast.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

As to the fillers, I suspect the tooling has something to do with it. If possible the heavy tooling (dies and such) are not replaced when they can be remachined a bit for the new shape. In the '60s part of the reason the wheel arches kept opening up in GM A-bodies was as the dies wore.

So the fillers may result from a die casting mold that could not be opened up that far so a cheap small part was used so that a multi-million dollar tool could be reworked instead of replaced.

Not many understand just how complex a high volume & large die casting or injection molding tool is.

Sounds like 8H70 production is going to meet expected demand.

Will be very interesting to see what the final specs and EPA numbers are like. Don't think they made .30 but .33 is likely.

That's quite possible. earlier, somebody posted an image of an Audi with LEDs that had such a filler, too - so the expensive European manufacturers do that, too.

If that fillers stays there, it will be interesting to see if it stays black or if it will have a different color - silver perhaps so that it doesn't draw too much attention.
