Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

^^I know there is a thread (might be in the main area) that someone asks about going with the Hemi or going diesel.

There is alot of information on WK2Jeeps from the 2013 model that can tell you the difference between the Overland and Overland Summit editions.

Welcome to JeepGarage

But as I continually see diesel .50 cents more a gal then gas in lovely Northern California, not sure it's the most economical option for us. I read the v6/v8 discussions, if we don't do the diesel, we will prob go the 6 route because we need the mpg.

One last question. What is difference between Overland and the Summit edition? If we can't have the big motor, might as well keep it classy inside!

Lastly, awesome site, great intel and has some very devoted members! Good work

Hey there,
Welcome to the site! at only 50 cents more per gallon you are paying roughly 15 percent more for gas but getting 50 percent more mileage. How many miles/year would you drive? It would also depend on what the markup is for the diesel engine.
If you want more performance though I'd go with the diesel.

Posted this a few (hundred) pages ago.

Should give you a feel for the cost of running the various engines in the JCG.

Keep in mind, generally Diesel does cost more than petrol (especially unleaded) and the price is usually akin to Premium Unleaded petrol. However, the engines are typically 30% more efficient.

These are using the current builds (Engine and Transmission) with my local fuel prices, and running 20,000 miles of "Combined" driving.

V6 Overland
MPG (City): 16.0
MPG (Hwy): 23.0
MPG (Combined): 19.0
Fuel Capacity: 26.4 gallons
Range (City): 422.4 miles
Range(Hwy): 607.2 miles
Range (Combined): 501.6 miles
Fuel Cost: $3.67
Estimated Fuel: $3,863.16

V8 Overland
MPG (City): 13.0
MPG (Hwy): 20.0
MPG (Combined): 15.0
Fuel Capacity: 26.4 gallons
Range (City): 343.2 miles
Range(Hwy): 528 miles
Range (Combined): 396 miles
Fuel Cost: $3.67
Estimated Fuel: $4,893.33

SRT
MPG (City): 12.0
MPG (Hwy): 18.0
MPG (Combined): 14.0
Fuel Capacity: 26.4 gallons
Range (City): 316.8 miles
Range(Hwy): 475.2 miles
Range (Combined): 369.6 miles

CRD Overland

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Only problem with the above post on fuel cost.

The v6 uses Regular and the v8 uses Premium. Right now, regular is 2.99 and Diesel is 3.70. It's a 70 cent difference, not 40 cents.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Gas/Diesel prices are going to be different all over the U.S. so it is going to depend what works best for you. Around here the price between regular 3.39, premium 3.69, Diesel 3.99

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

^^ Correct, it also depends on your area but Diesel will typically be between 55-75 cents more than regular.

I'm not even sure anyone knows what exactly the mpg of the Diesel will be in the US. Only wish it didn't need the urea system.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

True, no one knows what the mpg of the diesel will be. Only speculation at that point.

That's only after you front the extra 3-5k premium extra for the diesel. No one knows that premium up charge yet.
