Maybe not, see link below. There is talk of a class action suit due to incorrect MPG figures; not just KIA, either.

Go buy some aftermarket Recaro seats, they will probably be better and cost less, they are super comfortable and can be had in many shapes and colors. I bought a used pair about 20 years ago and they ROCK! My WJ is the second Jeep and the third vehicle I've used them in.

The only variable is the mounting brackets, if nobody makes them your SOL. For my WJ I found a custom source because Recaro didn't make them, I heard safety testing got too expensive for them to make brackets for everything, :-(

They are a class act, exclusive and distinctive and they are the only seat I've had in a vehicle that makes my back say aaaah, first time, everytime, and all the time!

We actually joke around my house if your back hurts go for a drive! Now that's a 180 from the normal mode!

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Looking at the numbers, someone flunked division or is using a Smokey Yunick measurer:
"CRD EXTRA URBAN MPG (L/100KM) 39.2 (7.2)"
Last time I looked MPG = 235/liters/100 km. 7.2 would be 32.7 not 39.2
Oy.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

That's using Imperial Gallons (4.546L), which they use in the UK.

I converted it to US gallons (3.79L) below those numbers:

Quote:
HIGHWAY MPG
EU CRD 32.668692
Or about 32.7

I could tell you this thing is second to none for the price, but 1.) you apparently wouldn't agree, and 2.) bc I have an undeniable bias, I'd just sound like a slap. But to answer your question, it's not practical to use top notch materials in all trims considering the starting pricing of a base Laredo for example. But the Laredo isn't meant to be a gentleman's car. If you think this thing has hard plastic surfaces, then what's in your XK must feel like concrete to you! If your number one concern is interior quality and feel, I'd suggest you look into the Overland Summit. You're gonna pay for that "feel" you want, but you're not gonna find an overall package for that same price, either. Hope this helps..
I think I agree with both of you! I think the GC is great and the interior and the package is great. BUT the area around the gear shifter really falls short of the rest of the interior. I think if Jeep would fix this part everything would be at the same very good level (also taking into consideration that some areas may not need to have the same quality as others).

I have only looked at a 2011 summit interior so I dont know whether this has been improved for other modelyears, so that is my reference.

If you refer to competitors you should note that in other markets pricing and market conditions are different and it is for instance not more expensive to drive an X5 for me. I would not consider an X5 but in some markets those may be the competitors and I think Jeeps targets those with at least the summit.

But I again, I really love the GC and you guys in Detroit will get my order soon

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Ps i think you find such spots in any car of any make, maybe different types of things you dont like. My wife got of a friend's E class the other day and said she hated the interior which in her opinion looks cheap and she didn't like the sound of the door when she closed it.

As mentioned before just because of one spot I dont change my opinion of the overall package. But I think the consol between the seats would not be expensive to upgrade.

Point well taken.. And I agree, all vehicles have their shortcomings. Personally I don't have a problem with the console itself, but there are a couple things I don't care for. Primarily the boring outdated shifter. Yet another reason to trade up.

And you're right about the market pricing. You referenced and E-class, and I was just having a conversation with someone the other day about how ridiculous it is that a Mercedes over in Europe can be a taxi, but on this side of the pond it seems to be the national symbol of success (no matter what model). That's not to say they aren't tier-one luxury in Europe too, but you understand my point.

Chrysler has come a long way in a short amount of time, but nobody is fooled into thinking there's not still room for improvement. I just think that for the money, nothing can match the value in this thing.

Oh and on that X5, I just checked BMW's site, and the '13 X5 STARTS at $47,500 over here, compared to $27,695 for a '13 GC. Now that model GC is obviously nothing close to an X5 in terms of overall offerings, I just added it for reference of starting price to starting price. The Overland Summit for example is at $44,495. But considering your market those numbers probably are a lot closer.

As for the '14, if you do decide on a Summit, I think you'll find the console more than sufficient. They did a bit more than just change the shifter. (But that was enough for me.)

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

I dont get Mercedes either and Im not alone on this in Germany thats why BMW and Audi are doing much better.

The pricing in Europe is much closer but an X5 is proably still quite a bit mor expensive if you look at the sticker price only but who pays that price. Most of the expensive cars are sold as company cars and if look at these rates they are actually redicolusly cheaper. But you will find very few if any of the big corporations who allow a jeep in their programme. Same with my employer.

However, Im not the type of person who cares about sticker prices. I look at the cars that I can afford and whether I like them or not. In particular I need a car with character, i dont find this a lot. American cars have retained the character or even gained it back over the last decade and have also increased quality a lot. A perfect combination. Before I bought the 300C I had an Alfa. But there is not coming a lot from Italy right now! Good for Fiat that they teamed up with you guys ;-)

To cut it short the GC is great car that does not need to hide from its competitors, even if you look a bit up, and beyond that it has a character that very few cars have these days. And that is why I really want one.

And to proof that I look at this indendently, we also own a BMW ;-)

I believe it will be getting start/stop. As for the cruise control, I think you mean adaptive cruise control (I could be wrong).

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

IMNSHO Mercedes are taxis and BMWs are the "best sports sedan under $2000" (C&D). Part of the issue is that we do not get the economy Mercedes here (A series) just as Europeans do not seem to get Laredos (at least the 17" tire/wheel is not for export models).

Of course the logistics always favour a short supply line and foreign mfrs never import everything (particularly diesels and engines under 1500 ccs) they make.

But for the last 30 years I have preferred to "Buy American".
