I like the refreshed grille

Hi all - first post,

(first up, Milous, thanks for your posts - they're my wiki on upcoming GC developments).

I'm tossing up between the 2013 and 2014 GC CRDs, and am concerned that the 2014 in these photos appears to have less cabin headroom than the 2013 (or at least than the 2012). I'm 194 (6'4"), and really just fit in the 2012; if the 2014's any lower I'm in trouble.

Does anyone know whether the cabin specs have changed for the 2014? Also, I'm in Oz - does anyone know whether (and when) the 2014 CRD will be rolled out here?

Cheers

Also, judging from the pics on Autoblog, the sharkfin will come in both black and body color on the upper end models.

The cabin dimentions aren't changing in 2014. It's pretty much the same vehicle with minor refreshing of the bumpers and lower fascias, headlights, taillights, and interior. But the shell of the vehicle is exactly the same for 2011 - 2016 for the Grand Cherokee.

@jgc4ever, thanks for setting that straight (breathes sigh of relief). Looks like I'll wait for Jan 2013, impatiently!

Guys, what is your view on the new grill? It looks really slim and small, I'm not sure whether I like that. I really like the current chrome grill. This will not put me off but would be the first thing I don't like about the 2014 model

First, don't let the plastidipped look of the test vehicle fool you. This is not what the production piece will look like. The chrome grill is most likely still going to be available.

Secondly, the masking is covering up part of the grill. I don't know that is very different from the current one. As someone else posted, a lot of what people are seeing is being thrown off by the swirly camo.

I expect the really only "major" change we will see is a slight change to the HID headlight housings to add LED running lights, and new projector beam fog lights.

Doubtful.

In order to deal with build up in the DPF (diesel particulate filter) the engine sprays some unburned fuel into the exhaust stream (via a post combustion cycle into the cylinder), vaporizes it, sends it down to the DPF where it ignites (because the DPF is already hot from heated exhaust) and burns off the particulates.

The problem lies in that the flash point for BioDiesel is higher then for normal diesel. As such, not all of the diesel is vaporized and some "sticks" to the side wall of the cylinder and piston.

This cast off eventually makes its way into the crankcase, and eventually.. you get too much fluid in the crankcase (and an incorrect blend on top of that).

If you don't monitor it very *very* closely, you can end up with the happy fun time experience of hydrolock.

The timing and impact of all of this is completely dependent on the blend you are using (the more Bio in the blend, the quicker this will occur).

Now, take this all with a grain of salt, as I have not been able to confirm for sure from anyone in the US how the Jeep is handling the DPF regen cycle (but this is how alot of manufactureers are doing it post 2007).

I'm hoping Milous can chime in on this question and verify.

You can see the seam under the grill. It's only an inch or so taller than what you actually see.

It looks like the shape of the taillights will not change and simply use leds. At least I don't see any changes at the back.

Looks like the projector fog lights are already in there as well.

Correct, mid cycle refreshes usually don't include changes to sheet metal due to the high cost of changing the stamping dies. So you are correct, the housing shape will most likely stay the same.
