I'm not really interested how the models are treated Jeep internally but how the models are presented to the customers. If the Summit gets a different badge that does not mention Overland on it I would say the Summits are no Overlands anymore.
My reporting came from what I saw a couple weeks ago. There was a new badge that reads "Summit" and there was a seperate "Overland" badge on the left side of the liftgate. Milous' posting a while back stated that they were splitting the two of them. And the new look of them coincides with that probably being the case. As I said the other day, they're unmistakeable for each other.

The only conclusion I can draw is that they MAY market it as both in some markets, and just a Summit in others. (But that's not likely.) So I really don't know why both badges were stuck on this one in particular, but I definitely saw it that way. Marlon should have an update coming soon.. They've got him working his tail off over there tonight! Lol..

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

WK2 codes

Chrysler assigns 6-digit codes (example: "WKTH74") to every vehicle trimline. There are hundreds of them between all of their vehicles (150+ just for the Ram trucks!). These codes allow Chrysler to collect/analyze/tally/isolate/inventory specific detailed data across its entire model lineup. Digit #4 letters (H,P,S,T,X) are used often in the parts database to match parts to specific trim lines.

Below are the codes for the Grand Cherokee, I have separated the codes for better readability. Note that the Summit has its own code.

Legend:

Digits 1-2:
"WK" = Vehicle family/program

Digit 3:
"T" = 2WD
"J" = 4WD
"U" = 4WD RHD

Digit 4:
"H" = Laredo
"P" = Limited
"S" = "Overland
"T" = Summit
"X" = SRT8

Digits 5-6:
"74" = Vehicle type (4-door/5-passenger SUV)

2014MY Grand Cherokee vehicle codes:

Left Hand Drive

WK T H 74 Grand Cherokee Laredo 4x2
WK T P 74 Grand Cherokee Limited 4x2
WK T S 74 Grand Cherokee Overland 4x2
WK T T 74 Grand Cherokee Summit 4x2

WK J H 74 Grand Cherokee Laredo 4x4
WK J P 74 Grand Cherokee Limited 4x4
WK J S 74 Grand Cherokee Overland 4x4
WK J T 74 Grand Cherokee Summit 4x4

WK J X 74 Grand Cherokee SRT8 4x4

Right Hand Drive

WK U H 74 Grand Cherokee Laredo 4x4 (RHD)
WK U P 74 Grand Cherokee Limited 4x4 (RHD)
WK U S 74 Grand Cherokee Overland 4x4 (RHD)
WK U T 74 Grand Cherokee Summit 4x4 (RHD)

WK U X 74 Grand Cherokee SRT8 4x4 (RHD)

Thanks for this clarification! This looks to me like they would still keep the Summit Overlands but want to make it more visible that some of the Overlands are Summits. Which I think is reasonable if the increase the number of differences.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

And with that said, @Alphakong (and other concerned parties); I just left assembly on recon mission #3... It looks like Milous' initial intel was correct. The Summit no longer has Overland badging. It's truly in a class of its own.. At least in here. But for all you Overland guys and gals, he has some info I think you'll like... Coming soon.

See your market is strange.. Which model/trim did you say a while back that's not offered over there? Was it the Summit? Was it that the "Overland" over there could be optioned up to practically be a Summit, or something like that, but not be called that? If so, you probably will see both this time around.. One just isn't called an Overland (anymore).

In Germany the only difference between Overlands and Summits in the saddle interior (including dash) (and some chrome pieces which you can get for the overlands as well). So in fact it's just the color of the leather interior.

The other post you were referring to was from a French guy who said that you can't get summits in France.

Oh ok.. My apologies.

Well maybe what I'm trying to say applies to him more so than you. But I could be TOTALLY off base!
