I forwarded a link to this forum to my dealer the other day... Especially overseas where a dealer's contact with the manufacturer is filtered through an importer, enjoying the kind of information that is made available on this forum is a privilege!

I read that in an online auto magazine. I wrote to the author and asked for his source. His reply was that the crd's in Europe don't have an 8 speed. Then he said he really doesn't know. But, he gets published.

Dealers in Germany expect the 8speed on the CRD, so at least for the Eurpean market I assume the 8speed is set.

Sometimes what a Source says the writer thinks is gold. That would be like Chevy saying he saw a few with the 5 speed in a few of them and he told some auto guy who wanted information for an article.

Lol.. I guess you know me, huh?.. I'd only do that if the guy/gal was an ass and thought they knew something and wanted me to confirm it.

It'd go something like this;

Them: Hey I hear the '14s have such and such, and are getting blah blah blah...
Me: Oh yea, sure!.. Oh and btw, don't forget such and such, and blah blah blah..

Anyone in the journalism business who doesn't know abt the "2 source minimum" doesn't need a job writing articles. Reminds me of that post a couple days ago that said they "heard" the headlights were gonna change, yet didnt even say they had even an anonymous source inside ChryFi. I wonder who "leaked" that misinformation.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Well guys, as promised I have some Laredo info for ya. I wouldn't consider this a tidbit, bc it's not really ground breaking news, but rather clarification of whats continually been talked about here. Hopefully this will be my last post on this topic. If you've been here a while you'll notice we've went from 1 headlight style, to 2, then back to 1, and now 3. 3 is the number I'll go with, unless someone at corporate reads this and decides to throw another hat in the ring just to make me wrong.

As it pertains to the Limited, Overland, Summit, and SRT8, there's one STYLE housing. Although the SRT gets a black interior bezel, giving it the smoked look, as it is now (and with the current Altitude editions), but its still the same design, so we'll count that as 1.

But for the Laredo in particular, there's 2. The reason for this is imports and certain exports. As many of us know, the law of some lands requires headlight washer systems on all vehicles, but bc they gave the (US) Laredo a different, non-stepped bottom style housing than the other models, ie. it fills the void where the "stupid black piece" is, aka "washer nozzle cover thingy" this style housing isn't sufficient for exports. FYI, this is the light some may have seen that looks closer to what's in production now. (No black piece). But bc the exports need a washer setup, they were left to either; A) give export Laredo's the same light setup as the Limited and up, OR B) make yet ANOTHER headlamp design just for those Laredo's requiring a washer system. They chose the latter.

So what's it look like? Well, instead of having just a section under the headlamp with a "stupid black washer nozzle piece cover thingy," a similar piece runs the entire length of the headlight. So instead of just the inner section of the light being smaller, the entire light is smaller. But fret not folks.. It too has some appeal. So really the only ppl who lose out on some form of a "stupid black piece" are those purchasing a Laredo without a washer system. (Imports.) I'm sure you'll be sad.

Summary;
1.) Laredo (US) style Headlamps
2.) Laredo (BUX) style Headlamps
3.) Limited, Overland, Summit style Headlamps
4.) SRT black bezel style Headlamps (Again, same HOUSING as Limited, Overland, and Summit, just has black bezel.)

I hope this clears things up a bit. As always, I'll update when/if things change and I see something new.

It's part of what I like to call the "Key 3" to easily identify an export; Windows, Headlights, and Fender marker light.
Hey chevy thats some cool info I read that, the blue Jeep was a Euro spec model I didnt even think about tinting laws..

Thanks for shedding some light (medium-quality pun intended) on this, Chevy!!

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Aha Chevy that's good news. I'm very intrigued now though with the Overland interior (blue, brown, black). I was going to order my Katzkin interior this week, but when milous said something about the blue brown and black interior I may hold off and see what it looks like and mimic it in my Laredo. hmmmm
