Hi Guys,

I'm in Perth and was just about to pull the trigger on a 2013 STR8 on Friday, but decided to have the weekend to think about it and do a bit of due diligence.

Luckily I came across this website and thread, obviously gonna wait till January now, thanks to you guys.

I must say it leaves a bit of a bad taste in my mouth with the two dealers I have been talking to, I had specifically asked if they knew when the upgraded media console and 8 speed would be available, and they both claimed to have no idea.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

My parents were complaining about their GL550 again today. They have to get the rear hatch locking mechanism replaced and are fearing how much it will cost. They could have easily prevented that problem by not buying an overpriced German car.

When is that order date again?

Don't be mad at your dealer(s). The narrative is the same everywhere. They genuinely don't know.. And the few that do, obviously don't want you waiting for a '14, bc "hey I've got this '13 right here for ya!" They don't want to risk you not coming back in a month! But again, most dealers I've talked to seem legitimately ignorant to what's coming. I've actually talked to an owner of a dealer, who was planning on buying/giving an Overland Summit to his new son-in-law for Christmas, but said he'd wait and give him a '14 cause he kinda likes the guy. Lol.. But before we spoke, he said even he knew nothing about it.

And fyi; You have to remember, annual sales of this vehicle alone probably quadruple the number of members on this site. So MOST people out there are still in the dark (dealers included).

Snappyman, seems to be a common dealer attitude. When I asked in autumn a dealer in France about the new upcoming changes (tranny, navi), he claimed that he wasn't aware of any changes. Only when I pressed on him making the reference to the forum information, did he finally concede. He then tried offering a major discount on a 2012/2013 model which was of no interest to me.

So much about dealers' salesmen. Hope their maintenance people aren't like this.

Any SRT guys?
I'm in NY for the winters, not quite the Rockies, but sometimes we can get bunch of snow! I have an '12 Overland Summit that was pretty good in the snow, but much, much, better when I replaced the stock Forteras with Nokian all-season snow and ice rated tires.

I drove a buddies '12 SRT8 WK2 and I can tell you it really sucked in the snow. Slid all over the place in less than 4" of powder. I'm sure it was the tires, great for performance grip, but completely useless in the snow & ice.
You also can't lift an SRT WK2 for larger snow accumulations like a regular quadra lift WK2.... something to consider with Rocky Mountain snowfall, you definitely made the right choice!

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Thanks for the feedback, this site is awesome!

The only reason not to wait would be pricing.

Any feel for any price difference between the 13 and 14 Summit???

The price difference will be made up from depreciation as well as the value of all the upgrades: Most likely it'll be a couple/few thousand. wait for the '14'.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

It's been a long time since I last posted, still trying to let the all of the images of the '14 sink in before I commit to how I feel about it. I'll ultimately decide in person either at NAIAS or the DC Auto Show. Thanks to all of you for sharing the knowledge--Milous, Chev, Marlon, Scott, etc.

Am I wrong that the Overland is supposed to have a fully chrome grille, not just the chrome-ringed slots? I'm kind of surprised we haven't seen a shot of that yet, I think it'll help my thoughts of the refresh although the headlight washer area black/argent plastic area could look more obvious there. At first, the talk of a fully body-colored lower fascia/wheelwell trim didn't sit well. But I think for True Blue it may be a good thing to get a little more black/argent off the vehicle as long as the grille is chrome and as bold as the new shape allows.

I've been doing my best to keep up on here, but you guys remind me of how excited I've been leading up to the launches of so many exciting vehicles and your number of posts are impressive. Keep up the good work, it's going to be fun.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Grilles as follows;

Laredo - Chrome rings, BLACK vertical slots, GRAY surround
Limited - Chrome rings, BLACK vertical slots, body color surround
Overland - Chrome rings, BLACK honeycomb mesh, body color surround
Summit - Chrome rings, CHROME honeycomb mesh, body color surround
SRT - Chrome rings, BLACK honeycomb mesh, BLACK surround

Hope this helps..

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Talk about quick response. Thanks a lot. Not quite what I remembered and was hoping, but there's too much I like about it to write it off for a few negatives. That's an interesting strategy—go from fully chrome grille on every non-SRT model to no model with fully chrome?

Forgot to mention my enthusiasm for the new interior colors. The Indigo is Overland only, but the new darker brown is for which trims? I've been a big fan of the Ram's Laramie Longhorn Brown interior though I forget its actual color name. That should look great if the dash/IP/steering wheel is also brown. Maybe I need to have mine built one piece at a time like Johnny Cash used to say.

Ooops, I really liked the Chrome Grille. Well, time seems to be in favor of "ringing it".
