So is that some marketing guy's idea of how they can up sell a Laredo customer to Limited?
For anyone wanting the Laredo but hating the grill - it would only be $100 from many, many shops to take it off and paint it to match the rest of the body...

I know that idea isn't ideal for most when buying a new car, but that is a really easy fix/mod.

Just a thought

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

The problem is, the vast majority of Grand Cherokee sales are Laredos so we're going to see these new Laredos with Light Gray grilles on every color imagineable. There's enough ugly cars on the road already. And as someone who take pride in ownership of a Grand Cherokee I don't want to see the model looking like that.

I am thinking the same thing. My local dealer in Australia quotes $400 for a panel of that size Hopefully less at a paint shop.

Granted, you're not snowbank busting in the SRT (or at least I hope not) as you still are limited in clearance. On the 2012, your clearance is increased by a couple inches, so if you have the ALL SEASON tire, instead of the 3 season which is offered, you should be fine on all but completely unplowed streets with 8-10 inches of snow.

I bet he was on the 3 seasons, or he's just an idiot.

Do you know which tires he had?
Regardless, the width of the 295's are not good for snow. But I'd take an all wheel drive SRT over any rear wheel drive vehicle on the market.
Yes my buddies '12 SRT8 WK2 was wearing the OEM 295/45ZR20 BSW "All Season" Tires. Probably why it slid all over the place in the snow & ice! These tires are wreck your SRT material in any amount of snow! They are wide, flat, and don't really remove snow from the tire treads very well at all! I don't get how anyone would disagree, three season sticky performance tires generally all suck in the snow by design, as they weren't intended to operate in the snow/ice, even in a 4WD vehicle w/snow mode!

Sure, anyone on forums knows that or knows to swap a Ltd grille but the general public walk on a lot or see them on the road and will be turned off and Jeep will actually lose sales over this I think. Just think of all the sales lost over that hideous WK1.

The grey looks terrible and cheap. What makes it so bad is the fact that the wings under the lights will be grey too. Its not like the 11-13 where its the grille, it is the entire front fascia that will look like a primed 72 Nova. For a 30-40K mid size SUV it looks cheap compared to competition. The 11-13 looks classy and timeless. All just my opinion, of course.

I'm going to disagree but I do not want to start a war or side track this thread, so all I am going to say is I drive in winter conditions 5-6 months of the year and my 2012 SRT does an excellent job of handling ice and snow for the vehicle that it is.

Once they use up those left over cans of grey paint, or they find they are losing sales, it won't take much to change the color to the same as the Limited.

But, it's just possible, not probable, that the public will fall in love with them.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Well, Buick sold over 40,000 of this piece of crap per year

And Pontiac sold over 27,000 of these not once but twice! I can't help but think the Aztek is why Pontiac is no longer around. Look, it's even in an orange color and it looks like $#!T

I actually wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people who get the body colored surround grille switch to the gray/silver colored surround.

I think I said this before, and maybe it's the fact that I'm buying a 2014 anyway so my subconscious is trying to convince me to feel this way... but the more I see it the more I like the new Laredo grille better than the current one. I think it's bolder, more distinct, and balances out the headlights better.

But again, my final judgement will be reserved until I see more photos and/or see it in person. We've got less than a month before the Detroit Auto Show unveiling, and I'm looking forward to it.

Speaking of the "spy" photos, the ones on MotorTrend look really off to me. To me they make the whole vehicle look shorter and longer than I think it actually is. Almost like they screwed up the aspect ratio or something. (Example. Here's one that looks more accurate to my eyes.)

I'm thinking it's just the molded plastic's natural color so they could save money on paint.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

I gotta admit... at first I was a bit unimpressed with the new looks, but the more I look at all the spy-shot pics, the more the new front-end is growing on me. Looks kinda futuristic/classy/rugged...

The more I read here, the happier I am that I stalled on the '13s long enough to find this place! (Not that I wouldn't love a '13, but... c'mon... )
