Hey! Just an idea..... But if we can convince enough people that the MY14 Summit is 'plastic' it just might take some pressure off demand and we can get our orders filled before the masses realize the new Summit is really cool after all.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

You know, I'm just gonna be honest with you guys, I HOPE it is some new kinda fabric/material. Bc having sat in many of 'em, I know the quality is there. And it's no $50 leather jacket kinda leather. This stuff looks and feels better than the Nappa "real" leather that's in a '13 Summit!

Ppl forget how trends work and perception changes. Remember what everyone said abt carbon fiber when it came on the scene? Go back, how bout aluminum heads and blocks? "Awww if it ain't steel/iron, it's just junk... Blah blah blah"

I can guarantee you all, if Marchionni ok'd this stuff, then watch it become an industry norm in 5 years. This dude has sunk TOO much money into Chrysler to take a chance with its best selling car, shoveling some junk.. So I HIGHLY doubt that's the case!

If its comfortable, durable, looks good, and remains that way then this will in no way deter me.

I'm not even sure that this new material is cheaper than real Nappa leather...

If it has the right touch and feel - why not?

On what do you know there tool boy. Go back to pushing the buttons for the robots to do the REAL work while you try to play us with all you insider talk. If I take a poop in a bag and tell you everything about it, does that make me an insider with information? Please, you are just looking at a 1/64th scale of a toy Jeep on the counter trying to give us what you want us to hear. Wait...does this even make sense? Love ya buddy

Would this be the same stuff Mercedes calls MB-tex?

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

I don't want a new Summit if it doesn't have Nappa leather. Oh well, it's covered in way too much chrome for me anyway. I like the painted fender flares though and the wheels.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

It better hold up better then the crap they used in the "Leather" WK's.

The bolsters are made of "faux leather" and they crack after about 3 years.

If that happens on my $50k Summit, I'm gunna find who ever approved it at CryFi and beat them with my seat...

I know, I had an 05 Grand Cherokee Limited and the side bolster tore. I had it upholstered with leather by a local upholstery shop.

The Nappa leather in my Overland is still in new condition after a year. The side bolsters are protein-vinyl but are pretty good and with little to no signs of wear.

Hi Chevy, I seem to have started a plastic shit storm with my question.

I agree that a lot is about perception. Natura Leather, if indeed it isn't real leather, may feel like leather and may even have advantages over leather (in the ad they said you can sanitize it with bleach, would you believe it), however it still isn't the real thing. Imagine a Maserati Quattroporte or a Range Rover with a non-real leather interior? Why do people put wood trim and leather into a car? Because it brings natural elements into a a machine environment.

I am hoping this all is a misunderstanding. Chrysler uses Natura Leather for the Ram Laramie Longhorn. I looked up the official Chrysler press release:
A full-leather cockpit with dark slate Natura Plus leather seats ..... The Ram Laramie Limitedís cavernous double-stacked centre console is topped with a soft, double French-stitched full-leather lid. In addition to 100 per cent leather seat coverings, Ram Laramie Limited gets a premium leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter ... Door trim front and rear also is wrapped in premium leather. Leather armrest uppers are further accented with the same dual French stitch used on the centre console lid and instrument panel..
Either this is truly dishonest and playing with words (artificial leather is also a kind of leather but for me "leather" without qualifier means real leather), or Chrysler's Natura Leather or Natura Plus Leather is indeed a real premium grade leather and I am freaking out about nothing.

I am suspicious though because with the brand "Natura Leather" established for artificial leather, no marketing person would use such name for the real leather stuff because he would downgrade his product. So it may be plastic after all.

I may be old fashioned but even if its substitute feels the same and is even more durable, I would not want to miss the real leather. It has to do with premium feel and with honesty. In a cheap car I have to accept wood imitation but I wouldn't do so in a premium car.

In Europe, including all ancillary charges, the SUMMIT will go up to about US$90k. Come on, a US$90k car with plastic leather-look seats? I would not touch it even if the plastic would be more expensive then leather.

Anyway, I follow the common advice: Let's wait until we know for real and do not get too excited before that. In the end the choice is ours what car we buy.
