For the 2014? Not weird at all to be getting a 2014 when 2013s are new?

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

When I ordered my '12 Wrangler in early June (opening of order bank) I ended up taking delivery in late August - just under 2 and a half months.

Sorry I apologize, but I did end up correcting myself and putting a more realistic number.

Yes for the MY14. The 2013 model was only a very short production because they wanted to get the 8speed in it and they couldn't get it ouT with the 2013.

I don't think we are saying the maybe a low 30's isn't possible, but 38 is a very very far stretch. You can't compare a van to a jeep, 2 different vehicles and aerodynamics.
Once broken in 38 mpg hwy at 55-60 mph interstate won't be a far stretch in my opinion. This is based on personal experience with a 2011 Touareg TDI and many other diesels I have owned over the years.

There are a few wild cards. The Transfer case in the JGC may not be as efficient as the Torsen center diff in the Touareg. The VM a630 may not be as efficient as the VW CATA 3.0 Or it may be more efficeint. Again the zf 8 speed may be more efficient than the Aisin 8 speed in the Touareg. The two vehicles are almost identical in size, weight and aerodynamics.

The electric steering on the JGC should help mpg. LRR tires are another wild card, they make a big difference on hwy mpg on a 5000 lb suv.

Bottom line is many folks will be surprised by REAL WORLD mpg #S of the JGC CRD one year from now.

And according to my research, it looks like production started in late July, so that's cool, about a month from production start to when yours was delivered. Hopefully it'll be basically the same for the 2014 WK2.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

So how does this work? Do i just walk into a dealership and say i'd like to order a 2014? They won't look at me like i have 7 heads or something? Any tips for which dealerships are good for us boys in Long Island NY?

You can not order until Jan 9th. Dealers should have basic for ordering on that date. You might be able to ask a dealer now if they know anything about it but they might not. As for dealers to use, that is up to you my friend.

You sure you're from Long Island?
If so, you live ON not IN Long Island.

Seinfeld got beaten to a pulp in the press years back for making that mistake in one of the episodes.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

This is as good a time as any to come out of the weeds and actually post something. The info on this site, and the efforts of Milous, Chevy (Devin), Marlon, and the others, are greatly appreciated.

I was a very early JGC fan. My 1993 Laredo and I drove around the country for 7 months photographing the national parks and other scenic destinations. Except for going to sleep on the first day of the trip (ignition coil) in Shenandoah NP, it never let me down. Snow, mud, rain, slippery rock, ... it didn't faze the GC one bit. My wife and I actually go off road and have a 2006 Rubi Unlimited but it's too small for the dogs (St. Bernards) and the mileage sucks. Now that we live in the "country" (northern/central AZ) and will be off road more, our X3 will be replaced by a 2014 GC CRD in Maximum Steel (if I can actually buy a vehicle that is not dark blue). Don't know whether it will be a Limited or Overland but off-road ability (Off-Road Adventure II) is a requirement.

I went to my local Jeep dealer a couple of weeks ago with information from this site and both my salesman-to-be and sales manager were VERY appreciative. The salesman joined the site while I was there. As someone suggested a dealer might do, he told me to submit what I want before the order banks open and the dealer will order it without obligation on my part. I just wish I could figure out Limited or Overland.

Whew! OK, now a question: I like the way Black Forest Green looks black until it's in light. Is Maximum Steel the blue equivalent? I know someone (Marlon?) said MS looks black but I caught sight of one that seemed to be gray with metallic flecks. Am I off base here?

I hope we will see the packages before 1/8 so I can make the trim decision. Also would like to see what that Indigo Blue interior looks like. So many decisions...

17 days to go.
