Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Here's a thought... it may be either idiotic or brilliant.

Since some of us may be ordering vehicles with different trim levels, etc.... why wouldn't it be possible for them to just skip the paint process (except for the primer or whatever they have to do to get it ready for the final paint) and ship it directly to the dealer that way we can just send it right to a body shop and have it painted any color we want?

I know many things are so automatic but if they have to make sure a certain paint color is in the guns when that vehicle comes through I don't know why they couldn't just send it through without painting it.

As a follow up question, what would it cost then to have it painted at a shop if the above were possible?
Please advise.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

If you cant get the color you like, why dont you order a white or black one and get the body foiled. I have seen many cars withba foil on it it looks really good. This will cost you somezhing but less than Milous asked for ;-)

^^
Yikes!
That's twice as much as I thought it might be.

Just wondering how you know that- do you work in a shop or have had your vehicle painted recently?

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Question to Milous (or any other "insider"):

Do you know how long the MY14 will actually last? I know that it was announced before that it would be about 1 1/2 years. Is that still accurate?

I was playing around with some numbers lately and I figured out that I might be able to pull the trigger on the Jeep around April 2014. I guess that would still be a MY14, right?

Any chance some of the new features (360 degree camera, automatic park assistant) could make it into a late 2014?

Thanks!

According to the calendar that I have seen, yes, it's going to be a LONG one.

Hmm... just thought of something...

If VINs start at 100000 this year...

with a MY this long....

Sneaking into 400000 shouldn't be a surprise.

But if you're gonna wait until April of 2014, I wouldn't even bother at that point. '15s will be right around the corner.

Thanks, Marlon!

Will be interesting to see when the switch between MY14 and MY15 will be made. Hopefully, it won't be as late as September 2014.

By then, we'll know as well what new features might be introduced for MY15 and if it's worth waiting for them in the first place. Alternatively, I could also order a late MY14 and pocket in some potential late MY-incentives.

And who knows - if it is indeed a very long MY14, we might see some new features introduced during the MY.

And it is true - there is always going to be something new coming in the future. You have to draw the line somewhere or you'll miss a lot in life..

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Oh, what I forgot to ask:

Am I guessing right that the switch between MY14 and 15 is probably going to be more "seamless" (in other words, no huge production gaps) than between MY13 and 14 because there won't be any major changes?

I'm asking because a potential delay on the MY15 would also be a deciding factor..

Thanks!

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

What do you mean by "production gap"?

There is a production gap on the line with every model year changeover to ensure that previous model year parts are not used.

Our huge downtime this year is used to retool for future models, and we all know what future models those are.
