I just thought that the switch itself shouldn't cause any big delays in regards to production of the MY15 because there shouldn't be any significant re-tooling or quality control. The switch between MY14 and 15 shouldn't be as complicated as the switch now.

Maybe "production gap" is not the right term. I should have said "availability gap" before the MY15s actually roll out to the dealers. I was wondering about the time between production and actual availability to the consumer. Sometimes, new MYs are kept on hold by the manufacturer to assure quality.

But MY15 is neither a facelift nor a new model - so that might not be an issue.

I was thinking about getting my Highlander repainted to look showroom new and that was what I was quoted from several places. Lots of labor prepping, taping off the interior, windows, painting the door panels, yada yada.

I decided to put that money towards a 14 Summit!!

Not to mention that it would never equal the coverage, quality, and durability of the OEM paint job!

Uhh have you looked at oem paint jobs? They suck they're full of orange peal. Hell I've even seen tiger striping in some manufactures metallic paint jobs. If you spent good money and your shop sanded/wet sanded between coats you would actually get a better paint job in the end. However you probably would spend enough money on labor like previously stated that you would be better off buying a new vehicle.

Time for more terminology, with all this talk about paint jobs, I must say

PARTS BUCK!!!!!

Some of you guys just might have some parts buck parts on your Jeeps! Don't worry, they're not bad, they're a good thing!

GCOverland, you're right, '14-'15 will be a normal model year change. Not an MCE/MCA, so it'll be a piece of cake.

There will be a typical line gap however, and the issues with NCO parts. Sadly due to certain circumstances...

Sick in 2011 ('11to'12)
Department switch in 2012 ('12to'13)

I have never seen exactly how big the line gap is.

As long as this gap doesn't delay delivery of MY15s to Christmas 2014..

The 2014 WK2 model year is scheduled to end the first week of July 2014. The 2015's will launch 1-3 weeks later (depending on summer break if any).

Thanks, Milous!

That gives me the opportunity to decide between MY14 and 15 and evaluate the pros and cons (prices, features etc.). However, if I go with the 15, I'll make sure I'll be one of the first at my local dealer once the order banks open.
