Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Great write up Guennik! I think you hit the nail on the head with the analogies with Land Rover. That is definitely who Jeep is going after with the luxury appointments. If all holds true the new 2014 summit is aimed straight at the Full Size Range Rover's top trim (autobiography edition).

I loved both of my 2011's limited and Overland, but something was still missing, mainly the refinement and mechanics of the air suspension and power train. I ended up trading my Overland and went back to a 2012 Range Rover earlier this year because of those dynamics.

The 2014's greatly improved interior and infotainment system had me interested in going back to the Jeep, but if the exterior looks like the recent pictures, I have to say they have lost my sale, and probably others. I am still holding my final opinion until I see it in a few weeks in Detroit.

The 2011-2013 was a huge success and they lured many owners away from brands they had been loyal to for years. I just do not see why they made such a minor, but drastic change to the front and rear. Jeep should have focused more on refining the drive train and air suspension than messing with the exterior.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

I'm surprised no one mentioned that there is no black headlamp filler. That was worth about 1,000 posts a month or so ago and I thought the black piece was on all of MY14 GC's. Maybe I missed a post retracting that.

If thats what the front of the Limited looks like I can live with it especially in a dark color. Reminds me more and more of the WJ with painted grille and chrome insert which I liked a lot. Don't need the LED jewelry, so long as it has xenon headlights and those seem to be xenon bulbs.

Can't wait to get equipment and option details along with pricing. Limited CRD is still what I'm leaning towards. It will really depend on what other interior color and leather options are offered on the overland.

Isn't it beautiful?

Corporate lease vehicle, or fast feedback if anyone was wondering what it was.

Thanks! With you having the 2012 Range Rover experience I would be interested in your opinion once you have seen the new 2014 Summit in Detroit. For me the alternative to the Summit would be either a 2012 LR Discovery or a 2012 Range Rover (secondary market), therefore I would value your impression.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Despite being perfectly happy with what the changes look like on the Laredo at least as seen in the other spy pics, I like others still remain skeptical why they even bothered making the changes. Hasn't the WK2 in its current design been a massive success, widely regarded as one of the nicest looking vehicles on the road today, especially in the SUV class?

The design of the front-end and grille is still so fresh, only being available for two and a half model years. One would think they'd want to make the less-risky move and ride out that success as long as possible and save any major exterior changes for the full redesign several years out. Typically, that is how it works.

But what do I know. Sergio hasn't been so successful for no reason...

I can give you one impression on the LR/RR....they are dead last by a large margin in cost of ownership. Jeep is 3rd.....

Interesting theory, possibly backed up by the fact that those probably (in my inedjukated opinion) on average less likely to want their car to look so bold and aggressive will be getting the body-colored grille with chrome "ringlets", while those probably on average more likely to want their car to look bold and aggressive will be getting the gray-colored grille with chrome ringlets.

The new headlights aren't that bad IMHO, I would still like to see the DrL led ones , the grill is a bit wonky with the smiley face like compass ect. As far as the rear they should of designed them more square to match the front possibly even add that beveled look to the rear like how the new front lights Protrude just a bit. As long as they still offer the saddle leather in overland & summits I might hold off, otherwise might trade for a 13 or used srt still on the fence.

My mom had two RR's, two model years apart. I believe an '06 and an '08. They were both terrible and always in the shop. At least once a month or every other month. My father figured the 1st one was just a lemon, that wasn't the case. The second one had just as many problems.

Sadly there will not be Saddle leather for the '14's.

Sure thing Guennik. I have had (4) GC's in my lifetime and (2) Range Rovers now. I love both and I give huge praise to Jeep for their recent changes to make the Jeep more capable and luxurious.

My first RR (2004) was amazing, but it did spend a lot of time on a flatbed. My 2012 has been a dream and they seemed to have fixed all of the glaring issues, probably because of Ford's brief ownership (which btw I was not a fan of Ford).

I will definitely let you know how I feel when I see it in person. If I love it, I will have a used 2012 RR for sale in the near future with low miles.
