Milous, how many 2013s do we have left to build? I can then attempt to figure out an estimate of how much longer until buildout.

So I take it nobody likes that non-HID Limited?
I'm not everybody, but I wasn't a huge fan. The diesel engine should more than make up for it though.

I read over at Allpar there are going to be two tunes for the diesel (same engine), one with 190hp and one with 240hp. This is the first I have heard of two diesel tunes. Input?

First I've heard of it too. I'll have to do some digging.

I figure the 190HP version is the one to reach that big "30+MPG" number Jeep wants so bad.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

I know I read somewhere & it could have been mentioned here that there are 2 versions but the one that we're getting here is the 240 hp and 406 or something like that torque. I'll try and remember where I read that or find it somehow.

Maybe Milous can confirm.

I still think it's pretty sick. Bought the wife a compass and am waiting for this GC for myself, HID or not!

I had to throw that in there for ya.

There are two versions of the diesel, one tuned (240HP) and one... not so tuned (190HP).

I believe it's been said we're getting the tuned, 240HP one.

Thanks...well, if you order one I'm going to have Chevyboy "un-tune" yours so it barely runs at all.

.... and the pdf you posted indicates an upgrade of the 241 HP to 250 HP .

I do have to say those pictures are not flattering. The lights are not as elaborate as I thought, the grille still looks like an after thought (trying to fill in a gab or hide something), and the back looks to much like a minivan now.
I think the huge "Jeep" on the back in chrome fat font is a little distracting. I bet it would look pretty good shaved and filled.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

What exactly are the advantages of 2014 over 2013, for those markets that already get the diesel?

* 8 speed
Unless they change the final drive ratio, it isn't going to get longer legs than the existing automatic. If they don't change the final drive, it'll be more urgent off the line and the engine will spend a fraction more time in its torque band if that is important. Paddle shifters. ok. I have paddle shifters in my sports wagon, I never use them. How might the diesel combined economy change? 1mpg better? more?

* Better U-connect entertainment system and 8.4" navi
Is this a better navigation system, as in, has better data, or just a bit better _looking_? I see some garmin features but for (say) Australian or other overseas markets I severely doubt many new features will be alive and noticeable. 3d cities and junction maps? probably US-centric. The big question for me is how much better this system will be over the 9 speaker 730N in the 2013 model.

* Vehicle information screen
Will this add any functionality - or just look cool and catch up to the Land Rover display.

* Adaptive cruise with stop and go
Is this a better adaptive cruise than the one offered in 2013? Is it adaptive cruise that doesn't shut off when you slow to a stop in traffic?

* Forward collision warning "plus"
Is the plus mean it is more than a chime that you're about to crash into something?

* Smartphone connect for unlock or start car
I guess this is nice for cold countries, if it works reliably. For instance, if it is bluetooth what is the range. If it is internet, will the overseas cars come with a free 3g plan, I wouldn't pay monthly for the car to have an IP address.

* LED DRLs and LED tail-lights
might be important to some, to me it is a style thing. Are the front DRLs a chain of lights or a light strip like the new audis?

What I don't see on the list is such tempting new inclusions as area view, auto park, lane departure assist, engine stop go, brake energy recovery etc.

In the worst case, subtracting the stuff that isn't important (to me) or isn't relevant in overseas markets, the 2014 might be 2013 with 8 speeds, slightly better economy and a styling change. In which case....

Jellies.. What about resale value' Must play a part in your justification process? Unless the 2014 is a lemon/dog then the 2012 & 2013 models will take a big depreciation hit which is a real pain if you pay full retail for the current model and 2-3 months later its out of date.
