Absolutely,
I'd only take a 2013 if the dealer can clearly do a big enough discount versus what they can do on a 2014 order to make it worth it.

I suppose I'm looking harder at the real worth of the 2014 added features, having made up my mind that I prefer the 2013 look.

Unfortunately this is where the ignorance of aussie buyers will work against me. If they can easily shift 2013 models for the next three months because buyers are in the dark about the 2014 model, or naturally expect it much later in the cycle and don't ask the salesman, then they're not going to discount in stock 2013 as much as they "should".

Then I'll be pushed into ordering a 2014 just because it isnt much more money and as you say will depreciate less over the time I plan to own it.

Agree I would also jump in on a 2013 if they knocked $5K of retail but they are milking it to the last cent right now as they can easily move the stock.. What a "first world" dilemma we face !

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Where are you Robo,
the sydney salesman when I asked about 2014 pricing etc said he is always willing to negotiate to move stock, and that applied to new orders not just in stock cars. Of course what he might mean is throwing in floor mats and a full tank

whereas audi was, I sensed, prepared to do 95k new model Q5s for close to 10% off and deeper for the superseded ones in stock.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

One thing that is keeping current demand up , at least domestically, is hurricane Sandy. A friend of mine said that he and his family lost 9 cars. I spoke to a woman who works in a total loss office on Long Island. where I used to work. She said they had about 19,000 cars to total out. That's just one insurance company, and her office only handles Queens/Long Island. You still have all the other insurance companies, and New Jersey to add to that.

The car companies were trying to pump cars into those areas.

That's a good point.

When I saw the pictures on TV I thought to myself was that the only positive thing about it was that it impacted an area that wasn't considered "poor" and that it would be save to say that the majority had insurance. And things destroyed would have to be replaced - not too bad for the (local) economy.

Don't get me wrong - I could live without these catastrophes but I still try to focus on the "positive" things.

Maybe somebody should tell the guys who work there building them. Quoting Marlon from yesterday;

"Milous, how many 2013s do we have left to build? I can then attempt to figure out an estimate of how much longer until buildout?"

I don't know how the current tranny performs with the diesel and vice versa, but for the V6 at least, the switch to the 8 speed is a pretty huge deal, and the sole reason I waited so long for it to finally come out (it was originally supposed to be available for the 2013s in July). A big portion of the reviews I've read on the WK2 -- not just "official" reviews (magazines, car review websites) but also personal reviews on forums such as these -- have talked about how awesome the WK2 is... except for the transmission. The common gripes seem to be things like: the first gear is too tall, making the vehicle feel sluggish from a start; it often holds gears too long; it often doesn't downshift quickly enough; it often doesn't know what gear to be in; there are "dead spots"; it acts "weird" and "dated"; and so on.

On the other hand from what I've seen most people have nothing but good things to say about the 8 speed on the vehicles it's available in (300, Charger, etc). Also, the vehicles that got the 8 speed saw a decent boost in acceleration (at least .5 seconds) over the same 5 speed used currently in the WK2.

(Granted, it's totally possible that you, me, or anyone else would get the 5 speed and be perfectly happy with it...)
