Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

That looks amazing and all, but sucks that by the time they finally get this all into the Grand Cherokee it will be old stuff and would have already been in other Chrysler vehicles for years :-( Still not sure why the Grand Cherokee is always last to get the "goodies". As much as I love the WK2, and no matter how you look at it its always a great value for what you get, but the fact is they really are years behind the competition as far as getting all the cool tech features. I know this is a minor gripe and I have said it before, but it took them till 2014 to finally incorporate LED tail lights? Geez, my wifes (now $8,000) 2006 Accord has LED tail lights LOL.
I must just be in one of those moods today, because I really love the WK2 and am thrilled with my 12 Overland. I am happy to say though that it sounds like with the 2014 it will finally catch up to where the rest of the auto industry is.

Cant wait to see pics!

I agree with you on some points for sure...but I will say that most car/suv owners of all brands have similar gripes. I could list a bunch of stuff my previous acura and 4runner lacked for "newer" vehicles. I think we are spoiled with the JGC especially when I drive or look at other features on similar vehicles. I do agree the JGC needs the new nav/u connect platform! although the current one is still functional, i love new tech.

I gave up a long time ago trying to figure out how automakers go about implementing features. I use to have a 2006 Accord like your wife's that had the LED tail lights. But what's crazy is that two years later when Honda redesigned the Accord they went back to regular bulb tail lights. I think it all boils down to costs and what the perceived value is from the 'average' consumers. Us folks on web forum sites are enthusiasts and not the 'average' consumer.

Many automakers delete some items (like LED taillights) on redesigns so they can then introduce them again after a few years so buyers will want the upgrade and then buy the newest model with the LED's. BMW for one has been doing this for years.

The Grand Cherokee is getting the 2nd generation 8.4" radios. These are brand new and will be introduced in the new Viper and Ram in November/December, followed closely by the Grand Cherokee in January.

Seems like the Ram always gets the newest updates first along with a higher rated engine (hemi) than the WK2. I guess they have to try and catch up to the F150 and Silverado.

Yeah BMW has gone back and forth with LED taillights and turn signals on the 3-series like crazy.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

I don't really care whether my car has ALL the latest features out there. I think the package is important. I think you will always find some features that a carmaker offers but others not. And at the end it's often a question of pricing the package. If you want a package that contains nearly all of the latest stuff you will have to pay a lot more than for just a good package. For me that's not worth it. I don't care about LEDs if the lights look good.

I think the GC is generally a great package, the transition is a bit behind, maybe even the current Uconnet (I like it though) but with the changes to MY 2014 the GC will really be a great package at a great price!

@Milous: Will the inclusion of the new Uconnect and the new shifter for the 8speed be the only change to the center consol or will there be other changes, i.e. will it get a new design?

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

I have to wonder WTF you guys do with your vehicles. I rarely use nav and only use the radio to change preset stations. I try not to use the cell while driving. The new radio offers me very little.

I want great power, good mileage, quiet cost, top of the line capability and reasonable cost.
