Sure but that's not necessary if we had the pass thru and the luggage rack is less comfortable (noise) and makes the car less fuel efficient, in particular at higher speeds. Not a big deal but I don't know why a thing as simple as a pass thru is not available. Especially as cars like the GC are winter cars for many people.

Furthermore, with the collission warning with crash mitigation (although we don't hear any details) and the lane depature warning added for me the MY 14 GC is very close to perfect, the pass thru would be the only personal wish for an addition.

I'm not so impressed from the grill but I'm sure the indigo interior will make up for it

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

The best reason to keep the flipper glass is for the people who tow trailers. sometimes the trailer blocks the use of the hatch, for me it was the propane tanks on the trailer. So all the after-thought stuff goes in the flipper glass. I think most boat trailers block the hatch as well.

Yea, with the power liftgate I really do not use that flipper glass much. The only times I do use it is when the Jeep is in the garage and I run out there to grab something or put something in the Jeep when the garage door is closed and not enough room for the liftgate to open. Also nice to have if loading something long for transport and need it open. Not a deal breaker and I can see much more visibility gained.

Is it possible the flier glass is still there and either remotely released or released by turning the key the other way and has improved lifters that will fully open it ? Wow how about that for a run on sentence ! Take that Mrs. Reason (4th grade English teacher) !

The only other way a dealer makes money on the front end of the purchase is by hitting their quota. By hitting their quota, a dealer can get back $600 to $750 per new vehicle sale. This is a monthly quota and a quarterly quota. So if a dealer misses their quota one month but makes it up another month within that quarter they will still get paid for all 3 months. The reason there is a spread between the $600 and $750 is due to Chryslers fast start programs. Every month, usually by the 20th of the month the dealer can get UP TO $150 per new vehicle if they sell enough new vehicles. So if the dealers quota is 50 by the 20th then the dealer will get paid UP TO $150 per vehicle. If they miss the fast start program but still hit the monthly quota the dealer is paid $600 per vehicle. If they hit the fast start program and the monthly quota then they will get $750 for every new vehicle sold that month.

The other way a dealer gets reimbursed is with advertising funds. I really don't know the exact amount but it is based on the quotas. The number that keeps coming up in the dark corners of my brain is $125 or $175 per vehicle. Now it does have to be used for advertising. Just an example but our new vehicle internet ad bill runs close to $12000 per month, that does not include print, mailers, radio or forums for that matter. Sometimes Chrysler will co op advertising, if we are holding an event and we are advertising it Chrysler will pickup $3000-$5000 of the bill. We had a 2011 Grand Cherokee Launch party here and we spent about $35000 on it.

That's the real deal and how it works. With the money we get back, we pay for loaner cars, free car washes, a pretty nice facility, charity events and obviously some of it pays the other bills. Overhead for a dealer is pretty extreme most of the time.
Is invoice price set for that vehicle class, or does invoice price vary per location (within US). Reason I ask, my company participates in the Affiliate Rewards Program so I am able to purchase at 1% below invoice. Regardless of negotiations or promotions, if I want a WK2 JGC CRD Overland will the price be the same at 1% below invoice no matter what dealership I go to?

Yes. The invoice would be the same at any dealership in the US. Invoice is set from manufacturer.

No flipper glass is pretty disappointing. Not a deal breaker for me, but probably the biggest let down so far for me (more so than the black honeycomb washer covers). C'est la vie.
Thats not the release, thats just a pull handle. The release is a rubberized button hidden out of sight above the license plate.

The first dealer I went to looking for a 13 didn't know that. We were looking at a GC in the showroom and I asked him about the flipper glass. He looked at the tailgate and said, this one doesn't have it, but it is optional on some models.

A couple of days later I stopped at a dealer that had about 20 lined up. Every one had a little sticker pointing to where the release was located. It clearly said, not to be removed by dealer. I was told by the salesman at this dealership that they all had the flipper.

He is the salesman I'm dealing with, even though he did think the wood in the Overland was plastic.

Flipper glass--I like it.. but wasn't a fan of the water leaking in from the rubber grommet - and always felt if water comes in .. exhaust gas?

For a rigid factor maybe it will be better?

Milous, did you see my Q about the new summit.. will it have wood on steering wheel like 11-13?

Pat@ Fields-- orders open next week.. but CRD/SUMMIT ready also next week?
