thanks for all the info Milous!

I am currently waiting for the SRT8 with 8speed as I live in Switzerland where the fuel price is 2 Swiss Francs (=2 USDollar) per liter! , we need low revs when driving on the highway...

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Please tell us they're not really going to use that dumb and odd shaped looking gear selector in the 2014s? Stick with what got you here Jeep, at least on the looks and feel of the stick shift.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Don't mean to butt into you guys' convo. here, but I've got a quick question for Mr. Milous.. In the past month or so I've noticed trades doing some retooling as we run pilot stuff. In particular, I have a new robot SPECIFICALLY for the '14 front floor pan. Rear floor pan and front rails remain relatively the same, and dash panel (firewall) has slight adjustments, but again, front floor pan is COMPLETELY different for '14. I assume this is mainly to accommodate the conflicting dimensions of the 8 spd tranny. Which brings me to my question; will the current pan used from MY '11-13 in both WK and WD become obsolete when the '14s begin full production, or will I now have 2 different pans to deal with, as the 5 spd is still used (mainly in the WDs)? The reason I ask is bc we bid for jobs again in the next couple months and I'm contemplating whether or not I wanna move to a different area. I've been building underbodies since 2010, and I'm kinda getting bored back here all by myself. Thx man..

I totally agree! The screen looks cool (as we could expect) but the gauge cluster looks really good and I was wondering how that would develop. Really neice, I want to see more detailed pictures.

I also noted that the plastics around the shifter look very plain. It is either just a placeholder in the testcar and the new piece will look like the one in earlier model years (which should still fit). But then I wonder why they didn't use the existing piece. Is there maybe a slight change that they will warp it with leather or something else which improves the appearance. I have to say while I like the quality of the cabin in the upper parts I do feel that the center consol falls short of the nice materials used in the upper areas of the cabin.

Big display but manual a/c controls. Space issue ? Expected HVAC to become part of entertainment/nav display.

It is redundant. Aka controls and touch screen.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

For milous.... I understand with the new infotainment system there will be an integrated program so your smart phone/iphone can give u information and start your vehicle. Is there a chance for an update for us 2012'ers who don't want to dive into a 2014 just for that technology?

I would guess no way. The 2014's will have a new electrical architecture. I copied and pasted Milous's explanation of the new electrical system, that he added to the first post of this thread, and the last sentences says the new system is the backbone of the remote access services.

- New: Powernet electrical architecture

The new Powernet system allows both high- and low-speed data networks to be equipped with as many as 40 individual modules, all designed to improve vehicle performance and enhance the comfort and safety of driver and passengers. Within the Powernet high-speed network, each module (e.g., electronic stability control) processes its individual data and transmits the appropriate commands within the vehicle to activate any additional systems (e.g. anti-lock brake system and cruise control). Uconnect leverages Powernet to deliver fast response time, and share critical information between the 8.4-inch touchscreen and the vehicle information center. The Powernet architecture also is the backbone that supports the Uconnect Access services and applications, including the vehicle health report and remote services.

I don't get the deal with these new and odd shifters. BMW has there's that they use with their version of the ZF 8speed tranny, yet it looks more like a traditional shifter.

The one that Chrysler is using with their version of the ZF 8speed is nearly the same, if not then exactly the same as the one Audi uses in the A8 with it's version of the ZF 8speed. What's interesting is all the pics that I have seen of the new A6 and A4 with the ZF 8 speed use a normal looking shifter.

I read an article on Edmunds InsideLine regarding their long term A8 test vehicle and they have complained about how it fucntions.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Hey LSIII thanks for responding, i figured that would be the answer! but oh well there will be something even newer and better when the 2017's are rolled out! Maybe its an electronic parking brake? that idea is kind of spooky.
