steveo, while I can respect your opinion to accept black on all JGC SRT8's, a color choice shouldn't be unacceptable. My question comes down to two reasons. My current and past vehicles have had black interiors. I need/want a change. Also add two Golden Retrievers to the mixture and a lighter interior would be welcomed.

Cross shop similar vehicles and it is very common to find more exterior and interior choices. With the SRT8 approaching $70k MSRP, is it unreasonable to ask for this. IMO, I don't think so.

They should offer more interior choices for the SRT with it going to be pushing 70k u should be able to have platinum trim put in. I dont understand why Chrysler does this... it seems like every time they get a car that does well on the market they amp up the price.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Keep in mind that an 8 speed has one more planetary gearset than a six speed. To keep the same strength (and for interchangable parts which may or may not be a consideration) the 8 speed is probably a longer transmission than the six which would require a different floor pan for more clearance.

Other things that will probably change are the prop shaft (all) and front transfer case drive shaft for 4x4s.

All together, reflashing the PCM would be the least of the problems retrofitting an 8 speed into an ealier vehicle.

Now whether the -45 (light duty for Pentastar) or -70 (Hemi and Diesel) trans have the same exterior dimensions is a good question.

In a similar vein, we have seen the published gear ratios but not the final drive ratios. At the same time I have seen mention that the standard 4x4 (without the low range) has been criticised for to high a first gear.

I *suspect* the final drive will be something like the 3.47 used with the (Hemis|Hemii|Hemies - what is the plural of "Hemi" ?). This would give a slightly lower numerically (2.3 vs 2.5) top gear with a *much* lower "granny" 1st (4.69), so low that it may not be used in normal driving with second gear (3.13) low-power starts more common.

Be interesting to see what the final result looks like.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

That looks like they swapped the earlier Hemi and Pentastar gearsets.

Pesonally I doubt the Hemi will get a 3.09 since that would make a 2.06 final in 8th or 100kph (62 MPH) at 1400 rpm. Suspect the same 3.45 for both would make more sense particularly if they keep MDS.

If any were to get the 3.09 it would be the 3.0 CRD so my bet is
3.6 & 5.7: 3.45
With a normal start in 2nd gear. (18 mph at 3,000 in 1st)
SRT 3.70
CRD 3.09

Keep in mind that the Pentastar needs DOHC and VVTi&e to make torque that low and have a decent high end. This century's V-8s are HEMI only for marketting purposes and need to get away from cam-in-block iron engines for many reasons.

Just for S&G, picture a 3.0 DOHC turbo engine designed for everything from diesel to peanut oil to ethanol to 87 PON, a true "flex fuel". Really just takes the ability to control peak chamber pressure (VVT) and DI. Would need a combo glow plug/spark plug. Military would eat it up.

Milous, any word on whether the diesel will get Start/Stop technology? Do we know what the towing capacity of the diesel 4WD will be? Any suspension changes?

I'm holding out for Black Clear coat. I hope Jeep offers it again on the Grand Cherokee. Any word on 2014 exterior colors?

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Drives me nuts.

I'm eyeballing a 2014 Overland Summit CRD, but it looks like I get to pick from 4 colours as well:
  • Black
  • Muddled Gray
  • Pastel Blue
  • Crap Brown
Seriously?

Why don't I just pimp the crap out of a Limited? Sure, I won't get *everything* on my list, but atleast I'll have a decent selection of colours...

You SRT guys are just... screwed.

Make friends with a body shop guy that's handy with a paint sprayer I guess...

How many choices are offered by other limited edition cars? SVT, AMG, M, S? I am pretty certain just one. How many SRT owners would go platinum or tan?

I could never understand why Chrysler doesn't offer a white pearl coat on any vehicle across their brands. "Police Car Flat White" just doesn't do it for me.

I'm also interested in this, AND whether it will get active grill shutters.
