I can appreciate the claims that the CRD is "faster" or "quicker" than the Hemi, but again, the Hemi does have it's advantages. I think it's really just a matter of preference. But this conversation is comparing apples to oranges.

To be honest with you guys most ppl I talk to that are heavily interested in the CRD aren't especially concerned with horsepower and speed. Torque and fuel mileage are their primary concerns. Pulling their toys. Pulling it's own weight. Being able to smoothly power past other drivers while climbing a steep grade, all the while getting excellent fuel mileage is what they want. Anything beyond that in terms of on road performance is just an added bonus, and not really a purchasing concern.

Exactly why I want the CRD. Its main purpose would be to drive 200 miles from sea level going over a 7,700 ft mountain pass 3 to 4 times a month and deal with snow on that drive in the winter. The WJ was getting 13MPG, its current replacement is getting 27MPG but it does not have enough room. Having driven several turbo diesels in Europe, the low RPM torque availability and smooth power delivery coupled with improved mileage is what I look forward to with the CRD.

Chevvyboy, Marlon or Milous. Can you confirm if I am on the right wave length here.
In Australia our top range is the Overland which carries all the features of the Overland Summit in the US. Have I picked up from the clues that the "export" Overland will get....Adaptive headlamps, Washers where the plastic tag is under the headlamps, some still to be announced SRT8 features, QL upgrade and more chrome still to be displayed......and Marlon, how is your recovery going?

#3,050 ·
Scott or Milous...I know Scott posted that the SRT might be getting 17/24, which is great. Any word on what the V6 or Hemi might be getting?

#3,057 ·
Seriously?

That would be a 42% increase in efficiency on the city numbers and 33% increase in efficiency on the highway for the SRT over current figures.

Did they like... make the car out of carbon fibre or something to lighten it?

I would epxect more along the lines of 10%-12% increase in MPG with the new tranny, not 30%+.

Those times are what all our brochures/info/dealers have for australia.

Whether they are accurate or not is another thing - but possibly the gearing is different over here or something resulting in less acceleration?

Just spit balling haha

#3,054 ·
nah....your Jeeps are the same....but those were estimates by ChryCo. I believe Motortrend got a 7.3 0-60. The wk2 haters took that 8.5 number and ran with it

#3,055 ·
Ah yeah makes sense. I have only driven the CRD not the V8 so cant compare myself, but was quite suprised to hear that a 260kw/520nm V8 was slower then a 177kw/550nm diesel.

Regardless, the diesel still goes pretty well considering

#3,058 ·
That is why I am asking the question. Originally he posted 16/22 and then he heard possibly 17/24.

#3,060 ·
17/24?

I can't see that. But here's a comparison of GCs... and a Dodge Dart thrown in for good measure. :p

That is why I am asking the question to Scott or Milous. I would be shocked as well for the SRT to get kind of mileage. What we truly dont know is what will the 8spd will do. Yes, we all can guess But if it were true, then the V6 might get 26-28mpg hwy... I can dream right? Lol

#3,062 ·
I posted pretty clearly those were some number I HEARD! On my 2013 Jeep SRT...I have seen 22 mpgs depending on the trip and averaged 19 mpgs on a 6-700 mile trip that involved mountains, interstate, city...mixed. I know that Milous posted their goal is 30 mpgs for the v6 8 speed GC.

#3,063 ·
Thank you for clarification on this Scott. That would be great if the V6 could get that on the highway. Hopefully the city mpg will go up some as well

#3,068 · (Edited)
I'd say that's within reason. Again, we don't know what kinda bump the 8-spd alone will provide, muchless anything else. (ie. the more aerodynamic front fascia that ppl can't seem to hold their opinions on.)

Edit: And that's not even acknowledging the bump in mpgs the white paint is sure to provide. :D

#3,072 ·
I didn't think there was anything faster than white lightning?? But orange is BLAZING fast....

#3,075 ·
Are you taking this from the very 1st pictures from months ago of the inside of the test vehicle?

#3,076 ·
One question on the interior with the new 8.4" radio. I was just at the LA show this weekend and got some hands on with the 8.4" in the updated Rams and test drove the 300 with the 8 speed (which is super smooth and I gladly welcome in the update) as well as the 8.4" screen. Will the update have the black plastic trim around the radio that's in the 300 and Ram or will it be more integrated with the dash like it is in the Charger? That's the only part of the dash in those vehicle that turned me off, but everything else was super nice and has a very upscale look/feel to it.

#3,078 ·
Won't be long until we know MPG numbers. We built the ones used for certification so long ago...

#3,080 ·
The question about the part between the seats concerns the silver - will it be still coloured plastic or will it be real aluminium / metal???

The plastic under the 'metal' in the Overland / Summit - is it now covered in leather (for example like in the Cayenne) or still plastic.

Further I got a technical question:
-Will this Smartphone App also work in Europe (especially in Switzerland) or only in the US?
-Everybody speaks about the new HD Radio... in Europe (we don't have Sirius Radio) will it work with the new and not much compatible HD Radio standart or the and in Switzerland often used real DAB / DAB+?
