Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Found this on the motortrend website:

Speaking of the Hemi, I got a chance to drive one of the first 2013 Ram 1500 4◊4′s with the 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 and eight-speed automatic combination — and it was just fantastic. This powertrain combination is a real winner; I can’t wait for the Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, and Jeep Grand Cherokee to get this engine and transmission pairing. Already a great transmission when fitted to the PentastarV-6, the eight-speed just meshes so well with the 395-hp, 407-lb-ft 5.7-liter Hemi V-8. Tow and fuel economy figures haven’t been released yet for this engine and transmission pairing, but Ram reps say that its towing capacity shouldn’t change much. Fuel economy, however, will shoot up, matching or beating the two-wheel drive Ford F-150 EcoBoost’s 16/22 mpg city/highway rating.

That's the combination I'm aiming for in my 2014 GC (hemi and 8-speed): great power, decent mileage and easy to find repair parts. You would'nt beleive how difficult it is to find parts for a 2007 diesel model, even de the differential is special... not to mention more expensive!

This is my 8th Jeep Grand Cherokee but my last diesel. For me the marginal saving in gaz is not worth it.

Milous (or anyone that may know really),

I notice the UConnect states it will be running on Sprint. Do you know if that's 3G, or 4G LTE?

As well, does it take advantage of the Nextel networks as well, or just confined to the Sprint networks?

I ask as I travel to some decently remote areas where the Sprint coverage map lists it as "Sprint Roaming/Off Network" (but is covered by Nextel), and I'm curious if that will cripple the UConnect system when I go into those areas for things like datatransfer and such for the system.

The Nextel network is being phased out. The former Nextel towers will be used for Sprint. They sent me a free phone (end of life model) at no cost because of this.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

I've been trying to follow this thread closely, but am confused about the launch timing.

I have an Acura TL coming off of lease the first week in January 2013, and am interested in the CRD, and would extend my lease. Assuming that the timing stays as predicted, can I order in December and take delivery in March?

Is it difficult to get a dealer to accept a customer order right when they open?

Thanks,
Greg

Ugh. Really? That could be the worst news about this jeep release. I have sprint for my work phone and aircard and they have far and away the worst service reliability I've ever experienced. What does the uconnect use the cell service for other than the remote start/stop feature? Is there going to be a mobile hotspot feature? If so, I don't really care about that since any newer 4g phone lets you use it as a hotspot.

I too have sprint and its been spotty. The good news is they are overhauling the whole network to 4g LTE w/ improved 3g. Its in the early phase, but by the time the new jeep is released service should be much much better.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

With the above listed release/order dates for MY14, when do you think the true EPA MPG will be finalized? I know the actual brochure/ website update won't be until July
(and yes, I'm not worried about the MPG's with a Jeep, but it would be nice to know the payoff with/ without the CRD).

Flaverdiere your a legend (but you already know that didn't you) you have just made my waiting so much easier.

I am ready to buy but have been waiting for Hemi & 8 speed i was so sure that box would WORK & bring the best out of the Hemi - compliment it as it were.

My wife has 300c and we love the motor (5.7) in that even get great economy...........that news just what i wanted to hear

Can you define Dealer reveal? Will a vehicle be running around the country, showing up at dealerships?!?
