Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

If anyone is getting a 2014 Laredo, the E and the All Weather Group seem like must haves to me, if you live where it snows anyway.

My parents live where it snows all the time. At Christmas there was about 6inches of snow on their steep drive way. I have QT1 and I must say, the Jeep did quite well, as i was worried about just having QT1. It does its job. Although the only reason I'd go with QT2 is because of the cool select dial! lol

I actually do have another question, which you may or may not know the answer to and if not, no big deal, but do you have any idea if the first 3 weeks of production is still for pre-spec and drive-off models (neither of which I assume would include customer sold orders)? I'm also curious to know if the plan is still to keep everything in containment until the 3rd week of February, or more towards early March -- both dates were thrown out over the past couple weeks and I'm hoping the 3rd week of February date is the more accurate one.
Ok.. Check this out.. Let me break it waaay down for you guys...

When I say '14 FULL PRODUCTION has begun, I mean just that. Pilot is over. '13 is no longer a production model. It's an outgoing model. Meaning going out the door. Are all the '13s off the line, and out the door yet(?), of course not. But again, the '14 is currently being BUILT, not assembled just yet, but built. In just a couple days, the number of "to be sold" '14s has exceeded 1000 builds. BUT - bc Marlon and the rest of the team on the other side of the world, haven't finished ASSEMBLING the last of the '13s, my '14 bodies just wait.. There's a rack system where unpainted finished and approved bodies are stored between Body and Paint, and right now it's nearly FILLED with '14s. This is a huge part of that "2100" Marlon spoke of. You PURGE the system of '13s, hence my 3hr delay Friday morning, and Marlon's subsequent 3hr delay yesterday, then you PRIME the system with '14s.. It's nearly impossible to count how many can be stored in that Body-Paint bank, but I'm sure it's the majority of what shows in DSS (the system).

So.. Are these the real deal, or just more expensive show pieces, and freeway rolling advertisement teasers? *clears throat* The deal don't get no realer folks... This is why I was able to GUARANTEE ppl would be getting their '14s by the end of Q1. But anyway, yes.. These will be sold.. Check with dealers in your area to see what '13s they had on order, that were never delivered/built, and again, you may find what you want in their allocation. I'll be able to tell next weekend what got built, bc again, Marlon's ppl still had '13 work to do. But Tuesday when we come back, THE ENTIRE PLANT will be on '14s.. The last '13s will be catching a ride down I-75, I-94, I-96, and so on..

The delay you asked about is for QC. No one can give an accurate timeline on that, bc you don't know what's gonna come up IN QC. An engineer on the road, with even a late pilot, might report something back last minute. A supplier might be sending bad PRODUCTION parts. You never know.. This is what goes on in the Metrology lab. EVERY part that goes on these cars is QC'd year round. But at a launch, all we can do is build em, and check em, and eventually cross our fingers and ship em.. This doesn't always work out. Metrology finds issues later. Engineers redesign things later. Fixes get implemented later. But at launch, its a dice-roll.. Best you can do is try to set the dice. But there will always be recalls, tsb's, and minor changes/fixes.. How many, is determined by the pre-pro work and QC in advance. So the longer the wait, in many ways, the better the Jeep.

I believe it was mentioned that the base is only for fleet sales. The ordering info that was posted for the Laredo, at least when I last looked, said "E" required for $1700.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

So do we know what that unknown radio is on the Laredo picture?

The rendering also shows no tweeters in the A pillar. It also seems to show bi-xenon headlights.

I'm wondering if that's just a preliminary rendering and not an actual production picture.

Yeah, the 2011-2013 base Laredos had roof rails, but they looked a little cheaper and had no silver/chrome accents like the rails on the E.

If those Chrome side rails are like the decorative plastic on the SRT I'd just as soon they left them off...if they aren't functional I don't want them.

Those are probably halogen projectors; the real question is if they use a dual filament bulb for low beam/high beam or a mirror or bulb position to change the beam pattern. I'm guessing it is a dual filament bulb for cost reasons, but the latter type design would make a hid conversion really easy.

Yea if I trade or buy the "other" a new GC I doubt it would be a base Laredo, maybe a Limited with Lux2 or a base Overland. All I can say is thank God they changed the color of the wood in the new Limiteds and Overlands as it flows much better with the interior now. Very classy.

This is excellent information for those that sit in offices every day and have no clue how to commercialize and manufacture a regulated product...

I am.
I drive 30-35k miles/ year and I can't wait to have adaptive cruise control. And with everything else that comes with that package it's a real deal. Will cost you twice as much on any luxury brand...
