Most of the items in that package are safety related. If they can keep you from denting your vehicle they will be well worth the price when viewed with 20/20 hindsight. Repairing a scratch in the paint will probably cover the additional cost. If I don't get the Summit, I will certainly order the group.

I have it in my explorer and it's ok. My dislike is if someone is driving a couple mph's slower you will slow down without even knowing. Pretty soon you wonder why you are going slower and not catching them to pass. I guess it might be me, but I did not order it for the 14 overland.

The forward collision warning is fantastic. It's something that I didn't think was going to be useful until the first time it saved me from a big accident. I had looked away for a moment when a guy in font of me slammed on his brakes in the middle of a long ramp entering the expressway. The warning got my attention in time to avoid an expensive accident that would have been ruled my fault. I think of it in the same way I justify having Blizzaks in the winter. If it saves me from having one accident I feel it's paid for itself.

That's good info, thanks for sharing. This is an item that cannot be really evaluated on the basis of a test drive, and the owners' manual, for a good part of the Forward Collision Warning chapter, lists situations when the system will not be accurate (in order to waive liability more than anything else, I guess)...
So reading about actual, real-life experiences like yours is really useful.

Thanks Chevyboy.. Good insights to the car making world..

I assume you are still making domestic market '14s at the moment? I believe our RHDs are scheduled for a production run in March (?)

Yep.. And idk what the actual schedule says, bc it tends to be very unreliable.. But last I heard we were supposed to start building '14 exports yesterday.. Problem was we didn't get all the parts in to do it.. So we didn't build any. I got my RHD stuff in, but other areas didnt. So we'll see what shakes up next week..

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

I think blind spot monitoring system would be cool to have, but someone else commented on the ACC and said that it drove them nuts when they couldn't figure out why they weren't passing someone else. lol That would bother me too because once I get stuck behind some pokey ass I want the first chance to get around them. Of course I guess you could manually speed up and pass then slow back down. Defeats the purpose of it lol.

The purpose is to keep you from hitting the car in front, not to keep you from passing.

In addition to what bill_de said, you can also turn off the ACC function and have it work as a "regular" cruise control when you prefer it. I will admit that ACC took a little getting used to, but over a little time, my mind started to adjust so that I have only a few limited times when I unconsciously get "stuck" behind someone traveling slightly slower than my intended speed. I also like that it reacts pretty quickly to more sudden speed change situations, including starting braking when there is a need to slow quickly so that by the time my foot is on the brake, the process already started.

Driving on I-80 one night in heavy fog. I looked at the speedo and the ACC has slowed me down to 40. WTF? I started creeping up and there was an 18 wheeler right in front of me, couldn't see him. I will never be without it again.

Just watch your speed. If you come up behind somebody pull into the left lane and off you go, no drama. Blind spot warning saved me once as we'll and you can configure the warnings how ever you like.

What's not to love?
