Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

I completely respect Guennik's decision and wish him well with the BMW but I think at times we all get hung up on this "off road" thing. Everyone has different needs for their Jeeps and that's why there are so many different versions.

What have they taken away from the Summit? Tow hooks? Never had occasion to use them. Selec-Speed? New this year to help you drive up slopes you can't walk up. How many 2013 Jeeps had the system, do we now believe they were not off road capable?

By virtue of its QDII 4 wheel drive (not AWD) with low range the Summit is VASTLY more off road capable than the X5.

I have no intention of taking my Summit down the Rubicon Trail and I don't think 99% of you do either. I do take it over hill and dale on camping trips and up some pretty nasty logging trails on hunting trips and I'd take the Summit up there long before I'd take a BMW up there.

If you think they have emasculated the Summit because it doesn't have chrome two hooks and selec-speed, think again. It's still one of the most capable vehicles you can buy.

I'm also not a fan of comparing new cars to used cars. If the BMW was worth 95k new and it's worth 69k now with 12000 miles, what does that tell you? And its not worth 95k, its worth 69k no matter what the original value is.

But again, to each his own. That's why there are so many different models and colors and tires, etc, etc.

I guess I don't understand the advanced drive train available in the Summit vs the 20" wheel/tire combo. Our desire is that we would like to get the Summit with the AWY package or the Overland with the AWY pkg and the upgraded stereo. Neither which seems available at this point in time

You can get the Summit with 18" wheels if you like. But I agree they shouldn't restrict options to certain models and force you to make choices you really don't want to make.

Happy to give a summary when I visit... but the option packages and prices will be those for the Swiss market.

Seems many are getting Hung up on the name ...think of it like this GM has both a Chevrolet Silverado and a Cadillac Escalade. Both are 1/2 ton 4wd (available) trucks...the key here is Chryfi has a Jeep Overland and a Chrysler Summit all four vehicles are targeted at different audiences. I know it says Jeep on the front but so does the SRT and I don't see people getting all twisted up about that.

Think Outside !- No Box Required.

I might visit too! It's just over the road, well a short plane ride.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

I agree with a lot of Guennik's post, but a BMW anything can not be compared to the Jeep. BMW's are not made to go off road, only to tackle a little snow or heavy rain. I am too upset that the summit has more bling, lost tow hooks, and lower questionable bumpers. They are essentially turning the summit into an escalade.

The price is my second concern with Jeep's/Fiat's new direction. They have a top notch vehicle and tons of features, but they keep pushing the envelope with pricing, to quick in my opinion.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

I would gladly trade a speaker or two from the Jeep sound system for LED brake/ts lamps. Incandescent lamps scream 'old car' or 'low tech' car. I'm sure they will appear before this model run is over but it sure hurts to see the Kia in front of you with a precise, crisp, LED turn signal. I wonder what the cost factor is? Any informed ideas?

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Here are the 3 different radios available on the 2014 WK2:

Uconnect 5.0 is standard on the Laredo and Limited.

Uconnect 8.0A is optional on the Laredo E and Limited.

Uconnect 8.0AN is standard on Overland and Summit, optional on Limited.

Uconnect 5.0 (RA2) has a somewhat different look than the RA2 radio listed on Milous' website (WK2Jeeps.com)

I pulled this info from the 2014 user guide available on Jeep.com & from the 2014 Features and Availability PDF.
