Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Hey I see there is a cd option to order. My question is, if you don't order the cd option, what type of player comes with the Overland? Anything ?

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Sno,
When I started looking I saw a red, '13 Overland and decided to wait for the '14. When I saw the '14 the red went out the window. For me, it was the black trim that made the red stand out. I think they should have at least kept the rockers either black or dark grey.

The max steel IMHO, can stand on its own without any contrasting trim. Of course with MS, a little chrome would work.

But, I've done my job, picked my colors and placed my order. Now it's up to the folks at Jeep.

You nailed it bro. The only good exterior change they made was making the fenders the same color as the body, instead of that cheap looking black strip. At least someone in the deign group had one good idea. Oh well, I will still be ordering my 2014 soon cause the 8 speed and the larger screen in the dash are quite nice. Just won't look at the front end... hahahahah

Not all of the models have the new HID headlights; also I wouldn't be surprised if you could swap the new HID headlights with the new "regular" highlights that are on the Laredo and Limited without the HID option.

USB plug, sd card slot and an aux jack. You can plug an ipod into the usb jack. You can also load up the sd card slot with music and play it off that. I'm really interested in how the sd controls will work. I checked the manual and it just talks about skipping songs or selecting folders. I'm really hoping there's a random option but can't find anything about that.

In addition to random, it will hopefully be able to sort by artist, album, genre and title.
If not, Sergio paid a lot of money for outdated technology.

Oh yeah and it can sync with a smartphone through blu tooth and play music off the phone if it has it.

Agreed. I rarely actually search for music directly but the wife often does. I pretty much only use my ipod in random mode. Worst case I have a cord for the ipod and plug it it. I'd rather do the sd card bit though since I don't have music on my phone.

I always use random, but sometimes it's random rock, random country, or on longer trips, random classical.

You just gave me a good idea in case the 8.4n is lacking. The same SD card I used to rip my CDs will work in one of my tablets that will plug into the USB port.

Thanks!

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Regarding the new GPS, I have always used a portable. While my wife was driving, I would look up rest stops, restaurants, stores, or motels. I read that we cannot perform these GPS functions in the 2014 GC while the car is moving. Did I read this right? Has anyone used a built-in GPS like this and is this a big problem? Is there a work-around?

Our VW has an SD slot and our Subaru has a USB; both play mp3 off the various media. The vw is a little nicer due to the big touch display, whereas on the Subaru the 2 line text display makes navigating more difficult.

On both, your music browsing experience depends very much on how you load the card. Generally speaking, I've had the best luck with artist name/album name/song name folder structure.

Both vehicles will display song info (meta data) encoded with the mp3 and will do random to some degree, either within that artist/folder or across the whole library.

I would assume similar or better from the new jeep system as this is pretty much industry standard.
