Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Waiting on them to build some of the ordered and sold cars that are on the list in the vehicle tracking thread... I know they still won't ship until the end of the month for some reason I thought sold orders had priority.

On a screen this size it really doesn't matter ... The human eye can't even detect the difference really .. However by making it a Blu Ray player at least people are able to play their Blu Ray discs in the player ... If it were a basic DVD player you couldn't even watch any Blu Rays you may have at home.

I recently went through the tires challenge with my 2008 Liberty 4X4 Limited, which came with "upgraded" 18-inch wheels, but also Quadra-Track II, steel plates, etc. It's an off-road capable Jeep except for the tires.

The original tires were Goodyear Fortera HL, maybe an A/S tire, barely an A/T tire, certainly not a true off-road. They wore out pretty quickly.

Replacing turned out to be difficult, because (apparently) very few suitable tires are available in 18-inch size with the correct width/profile. Visiting/calling many area tires shops, I was told repeatedly that classic off-road Jeep tires are 16-inch, and that off-road tires are not available for 18-inch wheels! Even A/T tires are barely available.

The simple direct size match was a Michelin highway tire. Lacking any 18-inch off-road tires to consider, various tire shops tried to determine if an different profile A/T tire could work, but most were wider and Liberty has a very tight wheelwell. The only way to get a true off-road tire would be to buy the smaller wheels used on the "lesser" non-Limited Liberty. (Yep, I paid more for less...)

I ended up buying a 18-inch Yokahama tire that fits, probably an A/S or light A/T tread, but better quality than the original wimpy Fortera HL.

Now I'm shopping for a WK2 with ORII, and fear the same 18-inch tires fiasco will continue.
I just verfied this, not much selection for the 18" P265/60R18 size especially in the AT tires, V/S the 17" P245/70R17 size which has an abundance of choices. Makes me not wanna get the 18" wheel and RA3 radio option for the Laredo E. But, I want the RA3 radio.

Try the Dueler A/T Revos, they come in P265/60R18 and are good tires, I've had a few sets.

For $2000, yes. As far as it's a Jeep not an Escalade, perhaps they should just drop the whole Overland/Summit trims then.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

I wouldn't buy an Escalade over a Jeep Laredo if the Escalade cost the same.

Anyone?

Seems like you're expecting the Grand Cherokee to become something it was never intended to be.

You all may not like it, but I gotta be honest, all these new interior electronics ARE an afterthought. This isn't what they want you to focus on. A great many of you are into the "debadging" trend, but this my friends is still a Jeep.

Now am I saying that bc it's a Jeep it's only focus must be its ruggedness and agility? No.. But, being a Grand Cherokee, it's PRIMARY focus will ALWAYS be performance. This may be suitable for a family man, but this isn't marketed directly at the family man. That's the upcoming Grand Wagoneer. And IT's PRIMARY focus WILL be interior refinement, and comfort features, while ruggedness and niche performance will be secondary. (Hence the extra row of seating.)

Think of it like this; a loaded SRX isn't as nice as an Escalade either. But does that mean they shouldn't offer a top line SRX? Hardly!.. But if that top line SRX isn't what you're looking for, then hey, they have an Escalade for you.

So I guess what I'm saying is, if the Grand Wagoneer was out now, then we wouldn't even be having this conversation. Many of you would just be redirected to that. And anyone who sees premium performance and premium creature comforts as EQUALLY important, is asking a lot for a little, in comparison to other brands' pricing.

The Wrangler SilentArmor tires are available in a 265/60R18 (as well as 265/65R18). They are a very good tire both on and off road. I currently run them on my Commander and ran them on the Cherokee I used to have.

Also, if you step up to the 265/65R18 size, you can also get the BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A KO.
