I know their radios, but they have to be something in addition to that to operate the heater controls. They have to manipulate switches and relays, hence have contacts or go to something that does. A simple radio isn't going to operate your heater system. I know the differences between the 2 radios, $600 to upgrade a RA3 to a RA4 is a joke.

I don't need uneccessary headaches as I keep new vehicles for along time so I'll be going with OR1 and Trailer pkg. You don't get QD ELSD with the 3.6 anyway in the ORII.
I understand all that - but I foresee using QL much more than I ever would a sunroof. I also understand that only people dissatisfied with either will go to the trouble of posting about it; you never hear from the satisfied owners of each (of which there have to be tens, if not hundreds, of thousands out there). I won't be keeping my Limited forever, so if I experience any problems with the QL I'll simply trade it off. And where did you read that the ELSD doesn't come with the ORA II package? It clearly states it does under that option for the Limited on P. 1 of this thread: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information and Pricing

Here's my opinion of any GC from 2011 to 2013, except SRT and TrailHawk: LOL

Hehe, just joking.

You don't get ELSD with a Pstar 3.6 (only with 3.0L or 5.7) which is what I'll be ordering and that's what was stated (3.6). Why IDK? It makes no sense to me. If I could get the ELSD with the 3.6 I would be more temped to take a chance on QL.

The new electrical architecture is probably canbus based. This is like a computer network where each device is addressed, and the switching is actually done at the device or in a central control module. Nice thing is you can change the behavior of lights, etc by making a programming change or via the evic in this case. Bad thing is you can't bodge in extra lights, etc or risk overloading that control module. Google vag-com to see how this works on a vw.

As far as the radios, the 600 is the list price for the dealer to add nav to the ra3. To upgrade to an ra4 from an ra3 is less, only 400 if I remember correctly.

The ra4 has dead reckoning, which is additional circuitry (accelerometer, etc) to keep the unit tracking when the sat signal is lost. Think tunnels, parking ramps, etc. the ra3 with nav is going to act like a handheld and give you a "signal lost" error.

I would venture someone will figure out the reprogram to put an ra4 in a vehicle that came with an ra3, but due to the canbus system it makes sense that you would not be able to fit a ra3 or 4 to a vehicle that came with the ra2, the central control module would not be set up to communicate with it.

I had read that on one of the sites. It struck me kind of funny, because any time I was driving in a tunnel or on a parking ramp, I had no choice but to follow the car in front of me.
