I haven't kept track of numbers, but it seems a good percentage of people are waiting to order the diesel, even at the high price. It's possible, that with the high price established, Jeep may start off with an introductory promotion.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

I would love to have the diesel option, but the price was too much of a stretch for me. Hopefully they become more common and prices come down in the future so I can add it to my next vehicle.

They definitely help with road noise...especially with sand/salt kicking up off the road.

Mine always held a bit of dirt, but there is practically no fender gap to get in there with a hose and brush to clean it. Wouldn't be worried at all with an SUV that has this material. Stiff bristle brush will clean it up with just a few passes. Tried it once with my wheel off and it was super easy to clean.

They do make a huge difference in road noise, especially when driving in the rain.
Thanks for the replies.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

My thinking with the CRD is that it's only $1k more than a V8 given that I'm definitely getting the lux group. On top of that, the V8 would need more than just regular unleaded, the cost is going to be made up for pretty quickly. Finally, you've got resale value to consider - diesels tend to do pretty well on the resale (not trade!) market.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Maybe I missed this in an earlier post, but I was looking at the official press photos of the 2014 Jeep GC Overland at WK2jeeps and it looks like the fuel door release button under the headlight knob is illuminated. If so, nice touch. I always struggled to find it at night when filling up.

The article indicates that diesel brings a premium of $1-5K across all the vehicles that are offering it over whatever standard gas engine would be typically in a given ride. So while I agree that it would be nice that the uplift would cost less, our friends at Jeep are not out of line with other manufacturers on this. Honestly, I would have cheerfully paid the extra $2K+ for the CRD over the Hemi if it had been available to me when I bought my Summit.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

I've just had a great idea! A brainstorm if you will, not a Snow Storm.
Why not set up a Jeep Grand Cherokee production line downunder here in OZ.

Guaranteed no Snow Storms here, maybe a catastrophic flood or fire from time to time but definitely no Snow Storms!!

And then us poor buggers Downunder would be the FIRST to know whats going on instead of being the LAST to know!!

In fact Detroit is 16 hours BEHIND Melbourne so by setting up a JGC factory here Jeep production would have a 16 hours run before Detroit got going even!! A thousand units before USA even got out of bed!! Run that by the JEEP boffins.

And when the JEEPS were completed they can get shipped back to the States 24 hours BEFORE they would even come off the Detroit line!!
Thanks for the info m8's.

Bluey

8.42am Saturday morning here in Melbourne, a lazy 30c (86F) and blue skies.

GTG now, time for my medication!!

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Just a guess. When Obama gave Chrysler to Fiat and the unions, there was probably some back room deal to maintain union jobs. He owed them big time.

I could care less about unions, but I do like knowing that people from Detroit are building cars and I hope it continues to increase.

Why not the government already fund GM, Ford and Toyota to the tune of $100s of Millions to keep the jobs locally. They burn it up then cry broke and the government coughs up more money as its cheaper than paying all the workers if they go on the dole ( unemployment benefits )
