Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Things can go either way with new vehicles. In '01 I ordered an '02 TrailBlazer right after seeing them on the lot. This was about a month after they launched. That night on the news I heard the warning from GM, that if you own one, stop driving, call your dealer and they will pick it up from where ever it is.

It turned out that they found a defective bolt from one of the suppliers could cause the front suspension to fail.

I got mine about 5 weeks later and after 40,000 trouble free miles in a very short time traded it on an '03. It took 3 1/2 years to put 40,000 miles on it. Those miles were not as trouble free. In '07 I bought a Liberty Limited. Never did more than a few oil changes.

This will be my first 'sight unseen' purchase. But as long as Chevyboy keeps all his coworkers enthusiastic about putting out a good product, we should all be OK.

We're not at liberty to go into detail, otherwise I would.. Y'all know how I enjoy explaining things. But at the same time, it wouldn't be very Chevyboy-ish of me if I didn't give genuine updates, and left out the bad stuff.. I'm sorry, but an average of say $45k for these cars is still expensive in my book, and when you pay that kinda money I feel like you deserve to be in the loop. Who cares if the competitors cars cost double that.. $50k is still a lot of money for a set of keyfobs, a mere handshake, and MAYBE a full tank of gas. So I try to give a lil more...

But basically we've had some significant setbacks with this launch, however the QC buffer, if you will, has shown its importance, and will allow these things to be shipped out on time as if nothing ever happened. Instead of being certified and just sitting out in the lot for a month, these cars were, ummm -- recertified with updated parts.

So early orderers (<<< probably not a word) will get their Jeeps on time, and those who aren't regulars to this thread will never be the wiser..

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Chevy, does that mean that those of us on Milous's list have cars that have not been made yet and will now be built with the "new & improved" parts?

Thanks for the updates.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Thanks for the answer chevyboy, I can understand your reluctance in going into further detail. I've had some experience working in manufacturing with a large corporation (40 years building locomotives for General Electric). And I know things that happen in the shop stay in the shop. Also, $50k is twice what I payed for my first home, so I definitely see your point. I'm new to the forum, but not to Jeep (wife drives a '08 Compass we bought new, and like very much). I've spent the last month, pouring over the WK2 threads, and am about to pull the trigger on ordering a '14 Overland as soon as I can see one at my dealer, which can't be soon enough. The only reservations I really have are the pan. sunroof noise (which some have not been able to get properly repaired), and the debilitating nature of a QL failure. But I'm willing to overlook those items because I think it's a great vehicle, and hope to mitigate long term pain with a lifetime warranty, as I hope to keep it for maybe 10 years. So tell me please, that the nature of said "catastrophe" has been handled and is no longer a concern, or should I delay my purchase. In other words, would you feel comfortable making a like purchase today?

Now I'm curious as to what part would cause a complete re-work like this... hmm.

Suspension, chassis, etc. basically the same as before.
Body and lights, new, but that you would know you have a problem with right away at assembly.

Engines, no major changes.

Maybe the new transmissions ...

or my guess is a significant issue with something electrical, probably gauge cluster/evic, central control module, steering wheel/airbags... SRS related.

Warm or cold???

Exactly what I was thinking...or perhaps something to do with the new electrical architecture? I can see how there could be some gremlins in that new system after the first builds that would not be apparent until real-world testing under different scenarios - thus the problematic part(s) could be quickly identified, replaced in the vehicles already built, and different (trouble-free) parts used in the assembly process going forward.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Chevy already indicated he can't go into more details and I don't think it is appropriate to ask him for more. He is already going above and beyond IMO to provide a lot of transparency we wouldn't otherwise have.

I completely agree. But we are free to speculate amongst ourselves...it helps to pass the time.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

It was the paint. After they got the vehicles out in the sun, none of the colors matched the cell phone images we've been seeing. They emailed the images that JG members took at the auto shows directly to the paint manufacturers. Using the images on their iPads they reformulated the paint to match. All is well.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

I'd love to respond to each of you individually, but as I've said before, web forums aren't my cup of tea, and I'm starting to get pissed trying to figure out how to do multiple quotes, so...

1.) Everyone will get the same parts.. Trust me, you'd know if you didn't.

2.) QL is updated.. Not sure about the pano-noise issue. And yes, the issues have been resolved. We actually ran 100% WKs (on my side) for about 5hrs on Saturday.

3.) Bill.. "frozen" sir..
