Marlon can you investigate the wood trim in the Overland that has the black interior? Is it open pore or regular old Michigan pine?! That and what is the the piping and stitching colors?

Tell me about it. Come on Marlon, smatter with you.

But seriously, enjoy your day off, and great news about the line, I was wondering when things would ever get back to normal.

Wood is nicer open-pore on Overland and up from my understanding. Also my understanding that stitching and piping is similar to the previous model.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Can anyone shed any light on the new premium nav system. Product literature shows it to be Harmon Kardin while the draft '14 JGC manual shows it to be Garmin.

Anyone have any idea on what it really is? I know that HK have hand-held units, but they are not so well regarded. Do any other auto makers use HK other than for audio?

If you study the spec page here - Jeep Grand Cherokee WK2 - 2014 model year radios; it shows it to be a Harmon-Kardon navigation system, but updates will be available on the Navteq web site at GPS Navigation System | NAVTEQ | Navigation.com. I'm fine with the RA4 if Navteq is providing the map database; they have good ones.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

The switch to HK for the navigation system gave me pause. I agree that the Navtech maps are good, but so much depends on the interface. I really like Garmin's 3-D map screen, with interchange lane guidance and all. So far, all the photos of the HK maps show a 2-D (flat) interface. I really hope it works well, as I went ahead and ordered a 2014 Overland.

I have hated, and as a consequence almost never use, the navigation system in my Murano. It has a terrible interface and poor on-screen graphics. I'm really hoping for more in the new Grand Cherokees.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Here's a portion of the description;

"Full Feature Harman Kardon navigation with one-step voice destination entry, three dimensional city models and landmarks and digital terrain modeling"

I wish that this close to launch they had more information available.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

How about this description from this link: http://www.wk2jeeps.com/wk2_2014_features.htm

From the bottom of the page-

Next generation Garmin navigation system features

New, Customized User Interface - Garmin introduces a new color configuration and design of its user interface that is customized to Chrysler and Dodge vehicles and provides a more refined look and feel.
Navigation for Uconnect brings the ease of use of Garmin into an original equipment, in-dash radio. The navigator includes highly detailed maps of the United States, Canada, and Mexico with more than eight million points of interest, as well as many cutting-edge features found in the newest Garmin devices. This includes spoken turn-by-turn directions, one-shot address entry via voice command, lane assistance, junction views, speed limit and current speed, a trip computer and mileage log as well as customized vehicle icons that looks like a Chrysler or Dodge vehicle. In addition to displaying the navigation interface and maps on thein-dash screen, the system also makes use of a second display, positioned behind the steering wheel, to easily let the driver see important information, such as next turn, at a glance.
3D Buildings, Landmarks and Terrain Realistic 3D views of buildings and key landmarks throughout major U.S. cities provide drivers better orientation. Using topographic map data, the new Garmin system also displays 3D terrain views of landscape elevations, helping drivers to see what lies ahead.
Trip Planner, myTrends™ and Multi-Route View A new Trip Planner feature allows users to easily plan trips with multiple stops, view routes in an overview screen and edit destinations at any time. myTrends automatically remembers frequent and favorite route destinations based on driving habits and predicts them at certain days and times without the user needing to enter an address. When starting a trip, the new Multi-Route View displays route options, such as fastest and shortest, in one convenient overview map, including time and distance for each, so users can pick their preferred route.
New Routing Features and Enhancements Garmin's new navigation system includes a couple of new features that improve routing. trafficTrends™ predicts traffic conditions and recommends routes using historical traffic data and recurring trends at any given time or day. Garmin's new point addressing technology enhances routing accuracy, for example, where several addresses of a housing complex are combined into a group of house numbers. The new system can now identify each individual house number and navigate there. Additionally, Garmin significantly improved the routing algorithms to provide even fasterroute calculations and destination searches.
Broader Junction View Coverage Garmin's exclusive junction view database now includes nearly 60,000 junction views in the U.S. and Canada, 25 times more than in previous versions. photoReal Junction View realistically displays road signs and junctions along the route with photographic detail to clearly mark the correct lane to be in for interchanges and exits.

Milous confirmed a ways back that they dropped the Garmin for the HK.
