Chevy, I think more get you than you think... and some agree more than you think... the other side of the coin is that a truck that is "trail rated" can handle some pretty serious stuff and yet still be a very luxurious and pimped out ride. It might not be a "real" off roader... but it can hack some rough stuff.

UH OH Summit guys, looks like the compass got the leftover hides of "New Saddle"

Yeah I noticed that with the reveal last month. I couldn't believe they dropped the saddle in the GC and gave it to the Compass. The compass shouldn't have the better interior color choice than the GC!

I agree with Chevy full heartedly on this. The reality is though not everyone is in the market for a Laredo with just cloth seats and an adventure package. But what I also don't understand is if I had an 43-55k vehicle it WOULD NOT being going off road. So I see what Chevy is saying, Jeep is putting all of the best off-roading technology into the higher trim levels when some of those "higher end" options should be available on a base Laredo for the buyer who is seriously just going to take this vehicle off road into every nook and cranny the world has to offer. The Trailhawk is the perfect exmple. Its a very cool looking vehicle (silver is the best color for it though ), but how many buyers (unless you're super rich) are going to throw close to 44k into vehicle just to take it off road and pummel it to the ground? Not very many.

And the GC shouldn't have the exterior as the Compass LOL. In all seriousness I've came to like the exterior, not as well as the current GC but what are we gonna do?

Unless, of course, you were buying a Compass.

While the saddle interior has a good following, I wonder how well it sold compared to others. It might not have sold as well and they have to use up all the left over cows.

The Indigo/Brown seems to be selling well here. But if it isn't a hit through the model year there will be a lot of blue cows roaming the streets.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

My thought about the off-road thing is that there may be the consideration that folks who are really focused there are more than willing to take a base vehicle and make it their own with their own hands. And folks who are skewed more toward "general purpose" and higher trim levels are willing to just buy some off-road accommodations from the factory to be able to do more moderate off-pavement activities. Different market. But it certainly would be nice if the former group could at least order some additional things a la carté if they wanted to...

Yea bill that's true! Remember all the blue interiors from the late 80's into mid 90's? Things always come back. I am with you also on, on here it may be selling great but in the grand scheme of things I wonder how many the dealers have ordered Indigo for their lots?

Jim I couldn't agree more, but from what I've read on here production cost would shoot through the roof.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Yea, opening up the whole catalog to the base vehicle wouldn't be prudent from a production cost standpoint, but perhaps picking a few things that truly would be of interest to the "off road" group might make some sense. (I'm not one of those folks, but certainly can appreciate their interests)

When I was debating CRD versus the gas v6, I considered the Laredo vs the Limited. You hit on the one thing that really pushed me into the Limited, which was the leather interior. I like leather because it is easier to clean and looks better longer if you take care of it.

The fact that a Laredo 4x4 with a couple of options is running mid $30s and you can't even get leather was a deal breaker. Yes, it can be added aftermarket.... but a Kia comes with leather now a days for crying out loud.
