Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

I don't off road my WJ much but I do need it's off road capabilities regularly to get to my cabin in the woods. I remember my dealer not understanding my insistence of the somewhat rare off road package at the time. I simply was not going to buy it without skid plates and tow hooks. It actually used to drag the plates on my access road until I raised it a couple of inches with budget boost lift spacers. Now if I could just get ELSD without air suspension, and with flipper glass, a CD in the dash, and more "color" choices (I don't consider most of the available paints colors) I would be thrilled to order one. I have been shopping for a couple years and almost ordered a loaded red Limited last year but decide to wait for the '14s. Right now not too happy I waited but I guess I'll get over it once I get something.

I can appreciate your perspective, as well as that of some others. I find the Summit in particular to be a very nice vehicle, however not something I could see myself driving everyday, even if they gave me one. I'm just not there yet. I'm too young, and my edges are too rough to appreciate something so refined like that.. So I don't knock it just because it doesn't fit me yet, but rather bc it lacks some things that you guys who are interested in it would like. Fortunately for the marketing guys, you guys are loyal and will buy it anyway. I guess I'm just too all inclusive or something. I'd prefer something for all niches.. Cover all the bases, ya know? After all, there really wasn't even a market for the SRT until they made it.
I think what we forget too is, when the SRT8 was introduced in 2006 I think? those were the hay days of the SUV so everyone had to come up with something that was different and that was Jeeps way of dominating and differentiating the SUV segment. "Lets add a fast SUV". If the economy hadn't started a downfall and then the real shit hit the fan in 2008, the SRT we know today would probably have a much higher marginal base than what it does in present time.

Now that's real smart leadership at the top! "If you build it they will come." Kinda like Steve Jobs philosophy, giving the customer what they want before they knew they wanted it. That's the kind of company you want to be working for. I was a 40 year staunch union guy at GE building locomotives, and we had guys at the top that thought the same way, and that sure payed off for me.

Has anyone heard whether Crystal Sapphire will come out as a late availability exterior color?

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

So I went to a local Jeep dealer today to ask about ordering a 2014 Summit. The dealer said they would not have any 2014s until maybe June. He knew nothing about them and I could tell I was educating him on them when talking to him about some of the basic new features. When I asked about ordering he seemed completely disinterested and said come back in June. Hmmm anyone else run into this? Needless to say I left and will probably drive a few extra miles to another dealer.

For those that have ordered when are your estimated arrival dates? Thanks!<O</O

Yep - I ordered mine from out of state due to the absolute resistance I faced from all local dealers in just trying to negotiate with them. If you become at least a Level III Premium Member you'll have access to the tracking thread which will show you the estimated delivery date of every vehicle ordered by members of the forum (who also signed up for premium membership). I didn't have that big of an issue, but I could tell the sales manager wasn't as informed as I was about the 2014's. He was shocked when I told him they longer had the Saddle interior and what the standard options were on the Overland model. Other than him not knowing much, he had no issues getting the order for me processed and even let us test drive both the V6 and V8 they had on the lot. I wanted to test drive a 300 to get a better feel for the new 8sp, but my wife was done for the day.

I ran into this exact issue with a small dealer that I had planned to go through. They are actually 100 miles from my and took great care of me on my last purchase so I was going to give them first shot. After going back and forth with them for a few weeks, I gave up. The didn't think they could order one and if they did I wouldn't have it until the end of the year. We have 3 big dealers in town so I started working all 3 to get the best deal. Two would only do invoice and were complete jerks when I tried to haggle. I got the third down to almost 2% below invoice (1.75%) and they wouldn't budge anymore, so I went ahead and ordered it. All three local dealers seemed to know a decent amount about the 2014s.

I ordered mine on 02/12 and got an email from Jeep this morning that it was in pre-production and was assigned a VIN. No ship date yet.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Maybe I'm a little late in noticing this or something but I was just checking pricing and options and noticed that QDII seems to be available to Canada and not available to US with the V6. There are no CRD or V8 qualifiers for Canadians to get QDII in a Limited GC V6.This really sucks!!!!

Never mind! Milous just updated the info in his post 1 in the Ordering and Pricing thread after I mentioned this over there. Thanks for the update Milous. You are just too quick!<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->
