Aw man, foot in my mouth... Jan 15 release, I am out of it today

Either way I am ordering one, I hope it is 4.4 for fun's sake.

Thanks! Must have missed that.

One thing I noticed is the part about the block heater. It says that the CORD is a factory installed option or can be obtained through a mopar parts dealer. Makes it sure sound like the actual heating element is standard and one can add the cord at any time.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Maybe it's just me, but man, these wifi access prices seem outrageous, and oriented to someone who would use very sporadically...not as an actual service.

$14.99/day or $29.99/week or $49.99/month

Uconnect® Access | The next generation of connectivity has arrived

I was very excited about this feature. But it appears grossly overpriced. For instance, Audi's wifi service is only $30/month - and that includes the data on a dedicated SIM card. With Chrysler, it's not like you're actually paying for data - the data service is your mobile phone plan. It's just access to use that data through the uconnect system's hotspot feature. That's what surprises me. Also, it appears the Audi wifi plan, for example, comes with 6 mos of included service. While we get a year of Uconnect Access, it doesn't include wifi.

I guess the only time I'll use this is road trips or other extended periods in the car.

Am I missing something? Thoughts?

I want to test my theory on you..

If the vehicle was a little more expensive, with slightly higher markups here and there, but this feature was simply given to you as a part of the entertainment group as "unlimited wifi for xx months" would you care that the vehicle was more expensive?

To me there's something about working things into the financing (which really is all Audi is doing) that gets people's attention, and makes them ok with paying. Kinda like credit cards.

I agree, that's a hell of a lot to pay for wifi, even if nobody else offered it. But if you're saying Audi offers a better deal, for cheaper, then well.. I'll just have to add this to me list of JG member complaints to give Sergio next time he comes around.

Re Audi, this is simply a comparison point. On a relative basis, yes, the audi is a more expensive vehicle. But you are paying for the services separately from the vehicle. So I'm looking at those "value added services" on a relative basis alone.

Pricing is a combo of a lot of science and bit a of art. I'm sure there is decent market research which has understood the segment most likely to use this wifi technology and a value-based pricing applied to that segment's preferences. While a marketer or market researcher would see lots of difference btwn Audi Q5 or Q7 and JGC customer's preferences, let's just assume there is minimal difference in preference and value assigned to wifi... It's shocking that the price differential is 67% more for uconnect over audi connect wifi. And again, Audi's includes the data used. Jeep doesn't. So for many folks, they may need to upgrade to more data in their mobile plan.

67% is a lot.

Just my thoughts, not a debate over pricing or total value.

So, will I be able to use the uconnect app to start the vehicle without paying extra? I don't need the hot spot, I have unlimited tethering on my phone already.

The uconnect has its own cellular connection via Sprint. It is not using your phone.

Even then, I do agree with you that the mobile hotspot is spendy.

The cell link looks to be free for the first year; after that you pay but how much for the basic connectivity is not published (or wasn't a month ago anyway).

The vehicle needs to have its own cellular plan for the web app to work.

That's not a bad idea, but I just checked what it would cost to turn my iphone into a hotspot...alas, it's $50/month. The plus side is that I'd have internet where ever I am, not just in my vehicle. Maybe this is the way to go to get wifi, and not do through uconnect wifi hotspot.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

tether.com - this might be the answer... looks like this service is web-based (not app-based) and allows you to turn iphone/bberry/android into a mobile hotspot for $30/year. If you have an unlimited data plan, this might be a good option to check out and avoid the outrageous hotspot fee from your cell company or uconnect hotspot. I'll do a bit more research to see if this is legit, etc.
