Probably that along with Geneva's response:

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Commentary Follows (long):

My wife and I are ready to pull the trigger on a new luxury SUV for her. We have been in the market since late last year and have looked at the typical fare (X5, ML350, etc). For the record she currently drives a Lexus RX300 which is going away as soon as possible

As a former jeep owner many years ago, I was impressed by the JGC so we started in earnest looking at them for purchase. The 2013 Summit was near the top of the list, but the lone interior color choice and the lack of electric folding mirrors, caused this to be was nixed by the Mrs.

We eagerly waited for the 2014 to show up and even went to the Detroit Auto Show and was impressed by what we saw. Despite the lack of lack of the color combination that she wanted, we agreed that she could live with the White/Brown combo. I though we were set and ready to pull the trigger...

Now, fast forward to the present....

Now that people are getting their hands on these vehicles, it seem that there a few features (or lack of them) that may cause us to look elsewhere. I will list the items below that albeit may be small items to some, are important to us. Especially considering the amount of money we are willing to spend for a new vehicle:

Again..I am speaking of the Summit:

* Lack of color choices (ext/int) vs the lower end models. She prefers the Summits exterior vs the others but prefers the Outland color choices.
* Top of the line and can't get 18" tires/wheels on the Summit. No optional wheel choices. I know can always swap or buy aftermarket. I never understood the inclusion of the best 4x4 system in the top of the line model and not be able to get the various other options that let you take advantage of the system (or have the ORA II package available as an option)
* Rear hatch glass no longer opens. I used this feature a lot in my old S10 Blazer and it can actually be usefull
* CD Player location. Not an issue for us since we don't want or need it. Except all the local dealers around here ordered theirs with it installed and the location is the worst I have every seen. The storage space it takes up is criminal, especially to a women ;^)
* Powered Rear hatch has no "height" adjustment. All other SUV in this category have this and in our case it is really needed. Could be a deal breaker.

I wish I could tell her that things change all the time, but out time to purchase is now. We are scheduled to drive the v6/v8 Summit sometime in next few days. I must add that the X5 put a bib smile on her face. I am hoping that the JGC can erase that but the feature set of the Bimmer has her leaning.

And for the record: I am a former Michigander and come from a family background that worked for Ford and GM. I really want to support the guys in JNAP. But you gotta shake up the marketing department a little here to help us out...

Thanks for the ear...

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

camtah,

I had similar concerns about the Summit model, (color choices,off-road option, wheels), and decided on the Overland. Always hard to get exactly what you want in a new vehicle, so realized I had to compromise, especially when looking into competition/alternatives to JGC.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

To CAMTAH..I feel your pain..we had our choices narrowed to ML350, Explorer, and JGC..There are actually 2 color choices on the Summit interior..Black and Sepia. Lack of height adj. on rear hatch is a pain when almost all others in class have it. I also hate on any top end model that they do not offer more colors. I wanted a blue Summit but not avail. I'll miss the flipper glass, having had it on my last few SUVs. CD player IS in a bad location so I did not get it. Rather I will transfer all my CDs to an SD card and play them thru it. Selling point for me was that a lot of features on the JGC were incl. where as in the ML 350 they were thousands more in options. Finally we ordered the Summit.

No need to apologize for your wife's needs and wants in an SUV. If you've got the $$$ for the X5, don't look back, it sounds like what the lady wants! Coming from an RX300, I hope you are ready for the maintenance costs after the X5 warranty expires too, or you might want to just lease the X5 and wait for the perfect JGC.

Actually she really is trying hard to like the Summit..if it wasn't for the issues I already brought up we would probably would have already test drove and ordered on. I will admit, the X5 did put a smile on her face as she likes the way it drove..I mean she DROVE it and not in a 'Lexus' type manner either...As for the X5 maintenance cost, yeah that is a mark against it and the ML350. If we go that route we will pre-pay for longer warranty and maintenance..

I will say this, the Lexus hasn't been all that great in that arena either once you get paste the glamor and the perceived rep.

...for me, I still drive Detroit iron (or aluminum)

The two interior choices for MY14 Summit are Black and Jeep Brown. The Sepia is a late-add interior choice for the SRT.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Can anyone confirm that the tires on the Limited are Michelin Latitude Tour 265/60R18? I'm looking to get rid of them for some better tires when the new one comes in.

This one has the 18's and there is a photo of the wheel. Can't quite read the sidewall but it looks like a Tour.
