I didn't replace the tires on my summit and probably will not until they need it. Not a big enough issue to me to change them out. I am just always surprised how car makers put crappy tires on the top of the line vehicles like that. Like I said above I went through the same exact thing with my last car, then put a set of Michelins on it and it was perfect. I know they do it for cost and get volume discounts on it and everything but personnel Id rather add a couple hundred extra on the price for a better tire. But that is just me, Jeep probably did there home work and found most people are ok with them so that's what they put on.
Regardless the Summit is great and you will like yours a lot when you get it. Enjoy

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

I recently changed my oil, after winter. The hole allows access to the filter and oil drain plug if you have the V8 engine. I had problems with the plug bolt (dealer stripped it and overtorqued it I believe), so got a new one to replace it. To get it off, I removed the entire lower pan (the one with the hole in it). There was no salt or gravel or anything up in there. I don't drive on sand, but our streets had plenty of salt and gravel throughout the winter. Maybe this will ease some of your guys (and gals) concerns.

Yup! it's exactly the same splash pan that is on my V6 that will soon be available to buy at Chrysler parts counters no doubt! 5 small bolts to remove providing better access to V8 oil filters than a small hole. Problem solved!

For an off-roaming 4x4, trail rated or not, it should be covered!!!!

Who said they were going to soon be available that way? Dealers all told me the earlier 2014s were covered and they transitioned to the one with the hole. Bob was an earlier build than my 2014 V8 summit so that would make sense with what they are telling me.
But if someone sees a covered one available out there like that let me know I will not be arguing just buying.

It appears that you have a lot of things mixed up and backward reguarding the splash pans. Earlier wk2 models had splash pans with holes and covers. They are being done away with and the earlier pans that were left over have been in the process of being used up in the 2014's without a cover installed. The pans are the same as always just that they no longer punch the holes in them and use covers because somewhere along the line they decided it's just as easy to remove the entire pan for access to V8 oil filters. V6 does not need an access in this area for oil changes.

It's no secret that Jeep Dealers don't have a clue on many issues reguarding 2014s so it's not hard to imagine that Jeep parts counter personnel are not up to speed and aware of this situation and when they look up the splash pans on parts fisches and computer systems that have not yet been updated they assume the new replacement splash pans will most likely have holes in them when in reality they soon will be supplied without holes.

My point is right now you cant buy them without a hole in them they are not available. Three different Jeep dealers along with all the side junk on ebay states this, there are side notes in the Jeep parts system that state they will ship with a hole in them without a door. As I stated if someone sees them out there without the hole grand let me know I will be the first to buy one they are a cheap part.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Editorial: It is stuff like this that makes the case that Jeep is still not up to par with the big boys. I understand the cost cutting to get to a certain price point, but you are nipping at the heals of the elite luxury SUV territory. Having this opening, without the simple plastic door smacks of cheapness. Either put the door on or replace the whole unit with no door. It looks half finished and one only wonders what other items that we can't see, that have also been eradicated. As I continue to peel away the layers of the Grand Cherokee and gotten over the initial excitement at it's unveiling, a closer inspection has brought forth items that concern me. Things that make you stop and say, "Wait a sec.." For example, no height adjustment on the electric tailgate, U-connect issues and silly missing covers. Not the least that brand new cars are sitting in 'Final Inspection' for weeks and lack of real color choices at the top.

As one that is trying hard to like and wants to purchase a Summit, I can't help but feel that all Chrysler/Fiat has done is put a higher quality makeup on this pig than before. I wish I felt differently...

I mean no disrespect, but if that's how you honestly feel, why are you here?
