Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Probably an engine from this list (click link, read and/or scroll down to list): Rumors and Future Chrysler Pentastar Engines

Maybe this one: <TABLE class=centered-table border=0 cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=5><TBODY><TR class=row1><TH>3.0 V6</TH><TH>Direct injection</TH></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Wait. Milous said no to the inline 6 already. How about a straight 4 (never heard of a v4). Marlon said "over there"... Fiat sourced engine? That would meet the nafta clue.

I can't help but read into the image "... Straight answer"

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Indeed, I've been mulling over the other options, but this is the only one that makes sense, especially with it being standard on all models - I would guess it will replace the v6, or maybe a larger motor to bridge the gap, but honestly, they don't need another 3.x liter engine, that's why I would guess it's replacing the Penstar.

Even/odd could be the 'tenth of a liter' designation (then the assumption is it is odd, since the exist motors are all even) or just a reference to the new 'odd' number motor.

So I would venture a guess that it is a replacement to the penstar with an odd decimal displacement. 3.1, 3.3, 3.5, 3.7, or 3.9

Either way, I'm happy I don't have to worry about it, since I'm ordering a CRD.

edit: Boo.. all those motors are even numbered.

I think even/odd could be a reference to or the lack thereof of the v (odd and even banks)

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Yeah Milous said no to both an inline 6 and a turbo 6. It must be an NA v6.

I'm guessing a direct injection V6, possibly still 3.6 - that list has one listed for production in 2014.

Or the 3.2 from the Cherokee, that would make a lot of sense.

What's wrong with a straight 4? The new 8 speed might make that a possibility. I'm thinking a non North American engine

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

there is a 3.2 v6...but not with direct injection. That WILL BE used on the export GC's. Direct injection Im told is too expensive to develop at the moment.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Yeah, and the 3.2 makes more sense than introducing yet another engine. They would have likely announced it already if it was a new model.

Also, do you think the inline 4 could pull the 4,500 pound GC well enough to make it the base engine?

The new 3.2L is going into several Chrysler models, but only one Jeep - the KL Cherokee (and maybe the new compact Jeep down the road).

Color me surprised. I think I'm out of ideas besides a mystery NA 3+ liter. Maybe a tune for the penstar?

Initially for export markets? Does that mean it may hit the US market? I dont want to sound like a durfwad but.. I have the V6 and love it as it does its job s,ometimes I feel the sluggishness of it. I cant imagine a 3.0? Do you have engine specs Milous? Torque, hp ect.. ect..?
