Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Have been reading on the internet that adaptive headlights are illegal in the USA, but Toyota is petitioning to have this law overturned. Are the 2014 Grand Cherokees shipping with adaptive lights to the USA?

Yes. Many brands offer adaptive/moving headlights. It isn't illegal, not sure where you heard that from.

Two different headlight systems.

The adaptive headlights in the Jeep swivel when the car is turning. What is not allowed right now is basically a beam that is half way between a low and high. It has nothing to do with the lights turning.

What is the very coolest in the Jeeps only because I never had it before is the auto high beam!

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

I should clarify, I was referring to Automatic High Beam Headlamp Control on the 2014 Grand Cherokee - according to the NTSB they are currently illegal in the US. Read the link in my post above.

They're not illegal.. The proof is at your local CDJ dealer.

Oh, will look into that as it is on many Chrysler products not just JGC.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Shannon, without even reading the whole article, there's a difference, which is MAJOR, between Toyota's system and Chrysler's system.

Chrysler's system is a low and high beam system that automatically turns on and off the highbeams.

Toyota's system looks to be a high beam that just dims, by use of a shade when other vehicles and pedestrians are around. THAT is illegal here.

You need to go back and read the article more carefully.

The main point you seemed to have missed;

" The headlights use cameras to detect other cars and automatically dim the portions of the high beam that would shine in other drivers' eyes."

The systems we have today shut off the high beam.

Just read the NTSB article.... The rule has been in place since prior to the forming of the NTSB that there must be a "switch" to go between low and hi beam and all of the auto hi beam CDJ products still have that "switch".

Personally I think not being able to turn off your hi beams is absolutely stupid. So if I drive up to someone's house at 3 in the morning I have to light it up like a stadium by default? Hopefully Audi and Volvo who are doing this have a speed override in place?
