I have not found any evidence to the burn cycle that many CRD's have. What we have been told is the DFP system is right up near the turbo and gets hotter quicker in comparison to the older CRD's that need to run a burn cycle to clean the DFP system. After a year of ownership, I am yet to see any evidence of this occurring and have not had any smoke from the tailpipes. It is also very difficult to get any meaningful CRD technical information from our local Jeep people. It is a pity that the USA has these tough laws making you fit a urea system to an already clean diesel. That just adds cost and complexity to a system just to please some tree huggers.

#541 ·
In Europe people don´t care whether they have DPF or urea systems. Usually the cleaning cycles run without noticing. If you are close to a clogged DPF, you get a warning light suggesting to go for 10 to 15 miles on a highway at higher speeds (40-50mph)(Never occured to me in over 160k miles on diesel/DPF cars)
However, the DPFs need to be replaced, but tahts usally only after 120k miles or more...

Good luck

Achim

Current US restrictions are tighter than European restrictions which are currently in place. However, if a carmaker introduces a new model they aim at Euro 6, the next upcoming European standard, which is also fine from a US perspective. To comply with current US restrictions AND Euro 6 you need DEF.

They made a bunch of stuff to hold back power not just for mileage but to save the drivetrain as well. My 2002 Jeep with the 4.7HO is significantly faster than my 2011 with the Hemi. Some of that is due to weight.... but most is the drive by wire crap. Newer Jeeps (less SRT) launch like crap.

Anyone have a best guess estimate at the MPG increase for the V6 in the new 2014's? My wife and I test drove a MY 2012 Overland with the V6 this past weekend and she fell in love with it. The sticker said 17 city and 23 highway. I am curious as to what the sticker will say on the window of a 2014 with the V6 and the new 8 speed tranny? Maybe 20 & 28???

Excellent forum by the way. This particular thread is very informative. I have never owned a Jeep, so all of the input in this thread has been a big help.

#550 ·
The transmission itself is supposedly 14% more efficient then the out going tranny.

Now how that actually applies in the GC, not sure...

#551 ·
Thanks for the responses guys. While driving the 2012 Overland the other night I was not impressed by the current Navigation system at all. It looked like a Fisher-Price model compared to the one in my 2011 F-150. That was really the only negative I found with the current GC's. Sounds like the one Jeep is putting in the 2014 MY is going to be about 25% larger and much nicer. Do you guys know if this particular Nav system is already in any current Chrysler vehicle? Would also like the option to add 20" chrome wheels over the polished aluminum. But hey, I like the polished aluminum anyway. Would just like the option to add the chrome ones.

That looks amazing and all, but sucks that by the time they finally get this all into the Grand Cherokee it will be old stuff and would have already been in other Chrysler vehicles for years :-( Still not sure why the Grand Cherokee is always last to get the "goodies". As much as I love the WK2, and no matter how you look at it its always a great value for what you get, but the fact is they really are years behind the competition as far as getting all the cool tech features. I know this is a minor gripe and I have said it before, but it took them till 2014 to finally incorporate LED tail lights? Geez, my wifes (now $8,000) 2006 Accord has LED tail lights LOL.
I must just be in one of those moods today, because I really love the WK2 and am thrilled with my 12 Overland. I am happy to say though that it sounds like with the 2014 it will finally catch up to where the rest of the auto industry is.

Cant wait to see pics!

I agree with you on some points for sure...but I will say that most car/suv owners of all brands have similar gripes. I could list a bunch of stuff my previous acura and 4runner lacked for "newer" vehicles. I think we are spoiled with the JGC especially when I drive or look at other features on similar vehicles. I do agree the JGC needs the new nav/u connect platform! although the current one is still functional, i love new tech.

The Grand Cherokee is getting the 2nd generation 8.4" radios. These are brand new and will be introduced in the new Viper and Ram in November/December, followed closely by the Grand Cherokee in January.

Hi Milous,

If the GC is released over in US in Jan 2013 when do think Deliveries would start to Australia? Does any one know when We could start to place orders? Could i go down today say i would like to order a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Min Grey, Black Int, Tow pack, Mark sure it has the CRD & 8 speed and 8.4 uconnect

Here is my $500 deposit call me when they start to build it?

Maybe a crazy Question but just asking.

#563 ·
I don't really care whether my car has ALL the latest features out there. I think the package is important. I think you will always find some features that a carmaker offers but others not. And at the end it's often a question of pricing the package. If you want a package that contains nearly all of the latest stuff you will have to pay a lot more than for just a good package. For me that's not worth it. I don't care about LEDs if the lights look good.

I think the GC is generally a great package, the transition is a bit behind, maybe even the current Uconnet (I like it though) but with the changes to MY 2014 the GC will really be a great package at a great price!

@Milous: Will the inclusion of the new Uconnect and the new shifter for the 8speed be the only change to the center consol or will there be other changes, i.e. will it get a new design?

#564 ·
I have to wonder WTF you guys do with your vehicles. I rarely use nav and only use the radio to change preset stations. I try not to use the cell while driving. The new radio offers me very little.

I want great power, good mileage, quiet cost, top of the line capability and reasonable cost.

#570 ·
My vehicle is also my office when I travel, so all of the amenities are important in that respect. To-date, I've had zero issues with the NAV or Bluetooth systems. I would hope that next generation stuff would be even more capable and also address issues that folks do have with the current offers.

#574 ·
All these distracted drivers.... yikes. I'm glad I don't have to worry about that stuff.
Inferior drivers need to have minimal "stuff" to worry about to be able to navigate the streets where-as superior drivers can multi-task and not have issues:D

#572 ·
Jeff, you're correct that there are many distracted drivers on the road. I do try to avoid that as much as possible...I only use hands-free in the car and never text or email while driving. I will pull over to do that if it's necessary. And with voice commands, the hands stay on the wheel even more. Conversation could certainly be distracting, but that, in itself, doesn't require a phone. (My motor-mouth 13 yo daughter is a good example... :D)
