Did anyone get a definative answer about the use of Natura Leather? I emailed Chrysler about its use in the Ram. This is the reply;

" Please be advised that the Leather seating within the Ram lineup is considered real genuine leather."

Not sure why they couldn't say it is.

My understanding is that for leather to be considered real, it has to come from an animal. I found the following information at the link below:

"Durable polyurethane alternative to leather and PVC Vinyl material"

http://www.naturaleather.com/vinyl.html

OUCH! Upon searching further, I found that JC 0105 already posted this link, in post 4237. My apologies!

But Jeep, you don't have the insider info like they do. Come on Scott, Bust ou the Tidbits!!!

#4,548 ·
You are correct on that my friend.

I left out some milk and cookies for the bearer of a Christmas morn' tidbit!

If they wait too long the milk will curdle and Chevyboy will eat all the cookies.

While the name is NaturaLeather I would doubt that this is the product we have to be concerned about. The source behind seems to be a variety broker to US companies of goods mainly from China. I wouldn't expect Jeep to buy artificial leather from China for their cars! Probably just a duplication of name. There are other vendors also using the designation "Natura Leather" for their real leather products, so the name does not seem to be a protected trademark. We'll find out soon, and Devin has already given some possible hint.

Hey 4jeep and everyone else who's hoping for an orange: what do you guys think your "fallback" color choice would be in the event that no orange is offered?

I just went to the local dealership today (twice actually; once when it was cloudy, and again a little later when the clouds went away and the sun was out) so I could look at some colors without any pressure and without getting any salesman's hopes up.

They had white, silver, black, black forest green, blue, and red. No mineral gray or maximum steel unfortunately.

Anyway: I love, love, love the black forest green... when I can actually see the green. The problem is when it was cloudy I could barely tell the difference between it and black. It was also really hard to tell it was green when the sun was shining (the skies weren't blue so the sun wasn't as strong as it could be, so that could have something to do with it), but after I walked around the vehicle I was able to look at it at just the right angle and wow that green "pop" really is killer. But my concern is that it'll be a rare occurrence that I'll actually be able to see the green. It's still in the running though.

The other two I really liked were true blue and deep cherry red. Between the two I preferred the deep cherry red (I'm pretty sure). But it looks like it's not been confirmed whether or not deep cherry or some other red will be available for the 2014s.

I'd also really like to take a look at maximum steel. Mineral gray too, but it looks like that might not be available for the 2014s either.

So for me it would probably be a choice between true blue, black forest green, maximum steel, and some sort of red if it's offered (with red being a pretty common color in general I still maintain I'd be surprised if one weren't offered).

By the way, Merry Christmas everyone.

I have a red jeep now & would like a change. The max steel is very unique but may be too dark for me- not sure yet. The sapphire blue by name should be a deep purply blue but instead it's closer to the winter chill powder puff blue of last year.

I really liked the rugged brown & I do like maroon so I'm curious to see the deep auburn in person. Online it looks like it belongs on a minivan.

If that one isn't my style I might just have to go with the max steel or the billet- I guess it depends on what model I want- maybe a special edition or even a trailhawk if it's available. I'm also fine with Trueblue. I do not want black or white for sure & the same goes for cashmere- that's the color that I wouldn't even paint my toilet bowl.

Know the foot operated parking brake from my earlier Mercedes. Noticed when test driving the 2012 Jeep GC that its mechanical brake extends quite far into the driver's foot area, much more I felt than in the Mercedes. I also like the Mercedes release knob better than the brake pushdown release of the Jeep. Nothing unacceptable though, just a bit much contrast (rugged) to the otherwise quite polished interior of the Jeep. For the even more polished and upmarket MY 2014 it feels like someone modernized the car but forgot this thing hidden down in the pedals area.

Had a BMW recently as a rental with the electronic parking brake. Very elegant and very functional. I believe Jeep would have done well to pair the new 8-speed electronic shifter with an electronic parking brake, like done e.g. for the Land Rover LR4 (Disco). Having in the new Jeep still this massive metal thing close to your feet and shins isn't ideal.

Understand though that the electronic brake must be more expensive than the present archaic system and would certainly require some design changes. However, if I would have been Manley (which I am not) I would have changed this.

Be it as its is. Nothing too important, would just have been nice.

The electronic handbrake is only usefull, if:

-it works together with the Adaptive Cruise Control (brakes when you drive down)

-it's fast in 'opening' and 'closing'!

I got actually a fabulous car from a French carmaker with a 3.0 V6 Diesel. The handbrake is in fact electronic. Works fine but tooo much slowly. Almost every time I start to drive, I 'open' it manually. It takes up to 1 - 2 seconds and what happens?
Yep... the car is hanging in its brake!!!

Conclusion: after 30'000 km in the first service, they told me it's important to change the brake disc on the rear axle!!!

#4,567 ·
That's what you get with a French car. I have a VW with electronic handbrake and it is very smooth and perfect. As long as you have your seatbelt on you just press the accelerator and the car moves away very smooth. As the other person commented you also get extra leg room without the foot break.

#4,568 ·
No electronic parking break?! I thought it was temporarily unconfirmed about 300 pages ago that it would be electronic.

Now I'm getting worried. What else are they going to skimp out on?

Actually, I don't really care as I maybe use a parking brake 3x/year but I can understand why others might want it or also might not want it d/t reliability issues.

Less than 2 weeks away from the 9th!

#4,569 ·
I think I had this on a VW rental car and I didn't like the wa it operated. I have the same footbrake as the GC on my 300C I hardly ever use it and never thought that the handbrake would be relevant to me. Unless the handbreak is a really handbreak which you could use for driving I think all solutions due the magic. This really falls into the category ok if it's there but don't care (but others may care ;-).

Love all the insight and advanced tidbits. I've been as excited to refresh this forum every day as I was to open presents at Christmas this year!

Milous: Any idea if the ZF 8 speed paddle-shift automatic transmission in the 2014 Maserati Quattroporte is similar to the MY14? That would be bad ass.

Anyone: Will the MY14 have power-fold side mirrors? I live in the city and am always manually closing mine now.

Thanks much!

#4,572 ·
MrMarbles... Supposedly folding will be on the Summit model, not even the SRT. As for the paddle shifters, I think this will be the same as what is on the SRT model.

#4,576 ·
They are not. Had that feature in my Escalade and it was nice. Problem was it was attached to an Escalade. You did have to wait a bit for the heated fluid however so of limited usefulness when driving.

#4,578 ·
Not in the GM pruducts. The system heats the fluid, not the jets. Yet if you're driving 70mph on a cold snowy day the hot fluid does you no good at all. Didn't use the system much at all.
