Awesome find! The front does look softer than the current models and that Jeep logo on the back looks big, but the black section below the headlights being covered makes this look better.

I said..."from the start"...like 2 years ago. before any of you were members....LOL. I guess I need to study and analyze every single statement I make...before I make it... so not to confuse. Because obviously others are. i think ill stick to the SRT thread anyway...you guys are nuts!

I dotn think the front end is much different from the 11-13...EXCEPT the line where the grill is cut now on 14's...where before it was just a design. maybe its a functional cut? Now maybe we can remove the grille to remove the headlamps for instance....unlike now the entire front bumper needs removed. thats just in theory by the way.

I think you're right. When I said "front end" I really meant the grille. That is indeed quite a bit different on the 2014s.

Anyway, half an hour ago when I first saw bossk's photo of the front end I had a bit of an "oh shit" moment. Did I just wait all this time for something that might turn out to be a lot uglier? Should I just get a 2013 instead now, even though I really want the 8 speed, LED tail lights, and all the other improvements?

But then I took a look at the Autoblog, LeftLaneNews, and MotorTrend spy shots from a month or two ago again (see the links in my post from a few minutes ago) and felt so, so much better. If the 2014 ends up looking like what it looks like in those photos, and from all accounts it will, then I'm totally down with it and will be glad I waited.

...and Milous' lack of response is slightly disconcerting.

If Jeep is anything like Microsoft, Milous is probably not getting much info as the place is a ghost town.

We're dead here from about Dec 20 until Jan 3 or so.

As for the looks, honestly, I'm not shocked. The days of flat/assertive front ends is coming to an end. Especially on carmakers that share a platform and design on a global scale.

It means the design has to meet the most stringent design requirements. In those case, probably NCAP for the EU (specifically around pedestrian impact).

I suspect it's also done for improved aerodynamics to increase MPG (to meet the required CAFE standards here in the US as well as China and the EU).

Hell... wait a few more years, your door mirrors will be gone completely...

As someone who may not be typical of Jeep Garage members, but more typical of the general public, I think the 2014 GC looks good.

I currently am not a Jeep owner. My only Jeep was an '07Liberty Limited which was great, except for being a little small. So, when I look at the pictures of the '14 GC, I'm not making comparisons to other model years are other Jeep models. Standing on it's own it is a good looking SUV, although it might not stand out as unique when sitting among the ubiquitous SUVs and cross-overs at the local mall.

The Jeep grill, even the new one, does make it recognizable as a Jeep, even to me ... member of the general public. Until I joined this forum, while I instinctively recognized a Jeep as a Jeep, I was unaware that the grill design had such a history. So, it could be that the new design is aimed more at the general, non Jeep owning public than at the Jeep enthusiast. The design might increase sales since not everyone wants to look at their car and think 'aggressive'. Those who know the Jeep Grand Cherokee, or like me are learning about it, will buy if for it's performance.

My biggest gripe with the '14 is the lack of deep cherry red. I can get past that. :)

Interesting theory, possibly backed up by the fact that those probably (in my inedjukated opinion) on average less likely to want their car to look so bold and aggressive will be getting the body-colored grille with chrome "ringlets", while those probably on average more likely to want their car to look bold and aggressive will be getting the gray-colored grille with chrome ringlets.

Only 9 days now to its official launch and dealers still know nothing. Was speaking to a dealer today and he had no idea the Summit was coming to Australia. He is only aware of a MY14 Overland which was, up until now a Summit anyway. It carried all the fully loaded benefits of a Summit other than the full Chrome Grille here in Australia. When I informed him we will have two top Models....an Overland and now a Summit he had no idea. That can't be good when we are only 9 days away from its public release. Chrysler Australia should be more helpful. I pity some unsuspecting buyer purchasing an MY13 this close to its public release. Previously in these posts someone said "buyer beware" but how would they know unless they come across this site for example. To me "ethics" if everything. It should come before a salesmans commission. The ethical thing to do is to inform the prospective buyer of what is about to happen and then give them the choice of what they want to buy. I would be really "cut up" if I purchased an MY13 9 days out from the public release of the MY14.

Hi Webber... I think it's part of the plan. If they told everyone about the new "you beaut" model that is just around the corner, then they could not move the old stock. Right now in Aust the dealers are getting RRP for the JGC diesel and there is still waiting lists ! 99% of punters are oblivious to the 2014 model and dealers think you're on something when you tell them what you know...

I don't know if its the white on the Limited (stripped limited as Milous called it) shown or if that's really a Laredo X, as there was no chrome on the lower front fascia, but in any case when Robo_70 did the comparison between 14,13 and Compass the 13 definitely stood out. All I can say is wow. I guess we should be thankful the compass three hole cut out didn't make it to the bumper in the GC? Maybe its just the white? As I agree with others, the other spy shots looked better.

Webber,

No, I would not be happy at all. That was one of the reasons I chose to become a paid member here. I felt I owed that much because it was this forum, not the Jeep dealer, that kept me from buying the '13.

What I was saying is that at the salesman level they may not have a choice.

Webber,
I sympathies with your ethical stance on this, but can understand the company point of view also.
I actually placed an order and paid a deposit on a MY13 Laredo in November and then found this site and discovered the pending advent of the MY14. It took some time before my dealer could agree on the impending new model. I had cooperation from the dealer to switch to MY14.
Now here's the other side of story..... What if the new model gets a price hike? Do I complain that the dealer quoted price should be honored? Will I feel cheated out of the proven MY13 with the more "aggressive front" and "better looks"? What if delivery is not until August as some are suggesting?

And then there is the MY15 which will be up for discussion by that time. Should The company be ethical and tell me to hang off for the MY15?

Milous did just that in one of earliest tit-bits when in a couple of words ... He said "wait for the MY14". That was good enough for me ... Thanks Jeepgarage!

Great write up Guennik! I think you hit the nail on the head with the analogies with Land Rover. That is definitely who Jeep is going after with the luxury appointments. If all holds true the new 2014 summit is aimed straight at the Full Size Range Rover's top trim (autobiography edition).

I loved both of my 2011's limited and Overland, but something was still missing, mainly the refinement and mechanics of the air suspension and power train. I ended up trading my Overland and went back to a 2012 Range Rover earlier this year because of those dynamics.

The 2014's greatly improved interior and infotainment system had me interested in going back to the Jeep, but if the exterior looks like the recent pictures, I have to say they have lost my sale, and probably others. I am still holding my final opinion until I see it in a few weeks in Detroit.

The 2011-2013 was a huge success and they lured many owners away from brands they had been loyal to for years. I just do not see why they made such a minor, but drastic change to the front and rear. Jeep should have focused more on refining the drive train and air suspension than messing with the exterior.

I'm surprised no one mentioned that there is no black headlamp filler. That was worth about 1,000 posts a month or so ago and I thought the black piece was on all of MY14 GC's. Maybe I missed a post retracting that.

If thats what the front of the Limited looks like I can live with it especially in a dark color. Reminds me more and more of the WJ with painted grille and chrome insert which I liked a lot. Don't need the LED jewelry, so long as it has xenon headlights and those seem to be xenon bulbs.

Can't wait to get equipment and option details along with pricing. Limited CRD is still what I'm leaning towards. It will really depend on what other interior color and leather options are offered on the overland.

Despite being perfectly happy with what the changes look like on the Laredo at least as seen in the other spy pics, I like others still remain skeptical why they even bothered making the changes. Hasn't the WK2 in its current design been a massive success, widely regarded as one of the nicest looking vehicles on the road today, especially in the SUV class?

The design of the front-end and grille is still so fresh, only being available for two and a half model years. One would think they'd want to make the less-risky move and ride out that success as long as possible and save any major exterior changes for the full redesign several years out. Typically, that is how it works.

But what do I know. Sergio hasn't been so successful for no reason...

My mom had two RR's, two model years apart. I believe an '06 and an '08. They were both terrible and always in the shop. At least once a month or every other month. My father figured the 1st one was just a lemon, that wasn't the case. The second one had just as many problems.

#4,785 ·
The new headlights aren't that bad IMHO, I would still like to see the DrL led ones , the grill is a bit wonky with the smiley face like compass ect. As far as the rear they should of designed them more square to match the front possibly even add that beveled look to the rear like how the new front lights Protrude just a bit. As long as they still offer the saddle leather in overland & summits I might hold off, otherwise might trade for a 13 or used srt still on the fence.
