i'd like one as well. i keep getting coupons for a ram or a gmc. i need a jeep one by next week when i take delivery of my jeep

#6,852 ·
Came here to check if some of you had ordered your CRD today. Sorry to read it's pushed back again - hopefully it's just one more week - but somewhat distressed to read the posts about the EcoDiesel possibly being canned for the US. That would be terrible.
I have had my BMW X5 diesel for 2 weeks now and loving it. Loving the torque and the interior - those seats are sooo comfortable. Getting 24MPG overall and got 28MPG on a 220 mile road trip yesterday.

Hope you guys get your diesel soon but just have to post pix of my X5 just cuz I am so happy with it.

#6,853 ·
BMW just released details of their new X5 for 2014 as well. Diesel will be late availability as well ... Gas engines out in November. Makes a guy think he should wait and check those out too ... The new Acura MDX will obtain 18mpg city and 27mpg highway with gasoline engine ... Suppose we will check that out too now. Better hurry up Jeep!

#6,854 ·
Can anyone tell me what I am getting for the $1700 Laredo E package. You can't tell me I'm paying $1700 for a power drivers seat are you? There has got to be something else to the package, and lets not say bright side roof rails makes up the rest, what else is in that package?

#6,866 ·
Basically you can go to the jeep.com website then scroll to the bottom and look for sign up for updates click on that then fill out the info and make sure the part that says buying within one month is checked and just fill out the form and hit submit. I've done this repeatedly and I have my fingers crossed that I'm on the list but once again if you haven't received the actual coupon in the mail your dealer can check the system to see if you're eligible for the money because it's in the dealer system regardless and it will show you have the money.

Anyone see the news today. It looks like the JGC gas burner has been named by our government as potentially dangerous with a request to do a recall. That's never good news for a manufacturer. Aparently there is a risk of gas tank explosion from a rear collision. Fortunately, Jeep has an ACE in the hole, because they make a JGC with a fuel tank that can never explode...the JGC Ecodiesel.

So, if demand drops for gas burners...no, even BEFORE that...they should begin production imediately as a smart business move.

It WILL have an effect, hopefully small. JohnQ public is ignorant and the news doesn't always clearly outline the details....and when they do, its not comprehended by all. All the average consumer remembers is that Toyota gas pedals hang, Explorers roll over, and now....Grand Cherokees explode. I can guarantee that company officials are taking this very seriously and are concerned with brand reputation and potential damage to current sales.

I sincerely hope it blows over. Nobody wins if it escalates. It'll drive cost up, profits down, and force the company to spend millions on advertising to protect their market.

This is true regardless of the product.

In the mean time, the CRD can be touted as totally safe from gas tank explosion. A nice feature that I doubt anyone has considered prior to the news.

The WJ exceeded the crash test standards that existed when the model debuted. Does this mean that the NHTSA will want to recall my 1955 Willys pickup because it does not contain air bags, tire pressure monitors, electronic stability control, etc.?

#6,876 ·
It's not the Jeep's gas tank that causes the explosion, it's the dumbass that rear ends you. :(

#6,881 · (Edited)
Yes, I realize there is a seriousness to this. I have issues though with a manufacturer building something to a safety standard that was established and then that safety organization changes the rules that apply. General Motors side Mount Fuel tanks in thier pickup trucks were definitely found to be more likely to cause a fire than the Ford and the Dodge of the day. This is a very similar case as we are talking about modifying an old design that was proven safe enough for older standards..... Careful where we draw the line because, do we recall the vehicles without crash mitigation 10 years from now because it will be proven you are 5 x more likely to survive the crash with crash mitigation, or do the manufacturers that didn't include ABS brakes standard now have to go back and pay to install them. This is a slippery slope legally.

Engineering is getting better every year but I dont think this is the same as a faulty piece catching fire. we are talking about holding a vehicle to a higher crash standard?

Edit: I should add that eventually the Recall was forced on GM which considering the evidence of what was happening I understand but I can see how this is not cut and dry is all I am saying.

WOW.... is he one of Lee's offspring?

No being serious, if he is in the know that would be huge. Please go post in the 2014 Diesel production thread and get them all bouncing off the walls like they are on crack.

This way if you are wrong we can all enjoy the same hang over.

So any more details on why the mopar exterior appearance group is delayed indefinitely? Seems odd since it seems like all of those parts are available from mopar right now - or is that an illusion like the EcoDiesel?

In any case, if the rumors are true that EcoDiesel ordering opens on June 11th, I'll be placing my order on that day. I want the exterior appearance group (mostly for the side steps), but should I avoid putting that on the order so that my order doesn't get held up by that?

So any more details on why the mopar exterior appearance group is delayed indefinitely? Seems odd since it seems like all of those parts are available from mopar right now - or is that an illusion like the EcoDiesel?

In any case, if the rumors are true that EcoDiesel ordering opens on June 11th, I'll be placing my order on that day. I want the exterior appearance group (mostly for the side steps), but should I avoid putting that on the order so that my order doesn't get held up by that?
Would love to see Milous, Chevy or Marlon chime in on this rumour. Deny or confirm.

Sorry but I've just gotta ask this old question again. If I frustrate anyone by bringing this up again...just ignore me.

Is Lux II required with CRD?

Everyone's been debating the cost vs value by using the "$4,000+-" up-charge for CRD (saying it's too much). But, if Lux II is mandatory it's actually closer to a $7,000 up-charge for that engine.

My dealer was able to build mine in the system without Lux II and quoted me as such. But...the fine-print on the quote states that any changes to manufacturer's required options will be added at time of order acceptance. If this happens, I'm looking at nearly $3,000 being added to final price. An equivilant build with gas V6 would save me $200/mo which would more than make up for the added fuel cost/consumption.

On the limited 4x4 which is what I think you are referring to.... Yes, Lux II is required with the Diesel.

Based on the Lux II requirement and a decision to stay within my financial means (not to mention the delays), I pulled the trigger on a 3.6L; details below:

Limited 4x4, 3.6L, ORA I, Tow IV, RA3(8.4") = $36,641 (5.5% below inv; military overseas program)
Cashmere/Black

I'm not too disappointed because all-in-all it was about getting the new MY2014. I decided on that before CRD was confirmed, then I thought "WOAH COOL!...now I want the diesel". The dream stayed alive for a while but I had to stay under $40k. Plus, I really don't need fancy headlights, fancy wipers, a butt fan, and a lazy man's steering column motor (especially not for over 2-grand); those traffic sensing auto high-beams would've been awesome though.

I hope everyone enjoys their GCs and I'll be sure to check back here in a while to read all the CRD stories and see what I'm missing out on. Oh well, I'll see ya on the trail none the less...I'll be the guy with the extra gas cans on the roof-rack.:glare:
