Do some searches on V6 vs. CRD....you'll find a lot of great information.

But basically you'll find out that it'll depend on your needs. From a pure dollar perspective, it'll depend where you live. 25mph on the highway on regular fuel or 30mpg on the highway on diesel fuel...which is $.40 higher per gallon in the northeast. Just about a wash. Diesel will probably go down a little in the summer when demand for home heating oil goes away though. All things considered.

You also have to consider resale. $4k now probably means $4k more after x# of years.

Towing? Diesel. 420 lb feet will be sweet for towing! Difference in towing capacity isn't huge, but it'll feel effortless. Limitations are on wheelbase, not on engine capacity when looking at the CRD.

The Chrysler warranty page says the lifetime warranty doesn't apply to diesel vehicles.

Hope this helps a bit...but there are over 100 pages of discussion out there if you search.

Yes, many debates on the V6 vs V8 vs CRD. Doing a search would be your best tool to use instead of opening a new thread on one. The recouping the CRD price in mileage has also been beaten to death by many people.

Guess color may have something to do with the build process? Notice no granites on the list have gone to pre-release as yet.

I noticed that your GC is listed in the tracking list as Graphite and not Granite. Is that correct?

Not sure. Most whites are in pre-release, mine isn't...

From a payback perspective, the CRD is a non starter. At that price premium, I calculated a 36 year payback at 15k miles/year versus the gas v6.

Compared to the HEMI, the break even point is a more realistic 3-4 years, still out there, but at least within the lifespan of the vehicle (or the driver for that matter)

If I didn't already have one diesel in the fleet and had not driven a VW Toureg TDI (very similar wight/torque/hp), I would probably not consider the CRD.

The low end grunt and effortless real word acceleration is addicting however.

If you not in a hurry, wait till you can drive one. I'd guess you would see them hitting lots probably mid May based on a late march production start.

From WK2jeeps.com, "Vin decoding and build sheets":

Scheduled
C - tentative schedule
D - firm schedule: serial number is assigned.
D1 - gateline: plant has sequenced the unit for production, estimated ship date assigned
D2 - gateline: framing and build imminent, usually within 3-6 days

Note: Once a vehicle reaches scheduled (C or D) status, it cannot be cancelled by the dealer. Orders can sit in D-status for up to 60 days.

There are no duties on US made vehicles. You will have to pay HST and Chrysler may not honour the warranty but there are no restrictions with regards to age of the vehicle.

Due to a high price difference, I bought my Porsche in Michigan and drove it over to Ontario. Surprisingly with little effort and huge savings. Luckily Porsche of North America warranty covers US and Canada.

Visit riv.ca and it details how to import your vehicle and which vehicles are admissable.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information and Pricing

My '11 MDX was built in Canada. At the time there were Canadians coming to the US to buy the cars and import them (back) to Canada. They said the savings were enough to cover the lost warranty.
