Also the pricing seems to be fairly in line with the cost of diesel offerings on other SUVs.
2013 Touareg TDI starts at $53,000 in Canada, and maxes out at $63,000. Jeep has priced themselves against Mercedes rather than VW, which is a losing proposition for them. Heck, asking $5000 over the price of the V8 and $7100 over the price of the V6 is downright offensive to me as a consumer.

Ditto!

Also, with the price of diesel above that of gas, they are shooting themselves in both feet. Who the hell is gonna buy the diesel? Nobody! It's a lose-lose.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information and Pricing

It could be the Jeep is making a mistake with the diesel pricing. Or, it could be they did a lot more research than talking to a handful of people who don't want to pay the price. Time will tell.

To see exactly what he tracks take a look at the '13s that were tracked. You'll be impressed ... I think.

I'm assuming we all would prefer to pay a lower price?

That being said, the US pricing differential at MSRP between the Toureg TDI and similarly optioned GC CRD is not very much, something around 3-4k but it is hard to get the options to line up closely. The upcharge to go diesel from gas on the Toureg is 8%, GC is 10-12% depending on trim level.

I think the Toureg is a nice vehicle, but a but overpriced for what you get and I am not a big fan of the jelleybean styling..

If Jeep dropped the CRD premium down a bit to line up with the market I think that would help seal the deal for many.

I have a 2014 Summit in Bright White with Black interior on order and was told it would have the chrome type trim on the interior. The copper color trim goes with the Jeep Brown interior on the Summit. Or at least I hope it does or else I may not take delivery with that copper colored interior trim.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information and Pricing

Like everyone else I followed the noise about the diesel and I convinced myself that it is simply not worth it. I am from Chicago and our diesel prices are about 60 cents higher per gallon Factoring a 0.25 dollar per gallon per year increase in the average cost of fuel; driving 15,000 miles per year; split about equally between city and highway, I would need about 8 years to recover the price difference of some 4500 dollars (I calculated it as $ 4005 plus some 500 dollars difference in the ORA II pricing due the added cost of the rear QD-2 differential). Consequently I will stick with the gas V6. Another factor that comes to mind is the added weight: 400 lbs extra bulk on the diesel variant - or the equivalent of 2 adult males.

The way I foresee it: the diesel Jeep will remain a niche market - much like the Subaru Legacy GT (turbo) crowd that I am a part of. It will be purchased by folks who love the smell of diesel driving in Moab; by those who tow a lot and by those who drive a lot. For most of us it makes little sense. The problem is three fold: the diesel option is (1) priced too high; and (2) offers marginal fuel economy improvements over the gas variants. Lastly (3) the price of diesel fuel is too high compared to regular throughout US.

I will be ordering the V6 Limited with the ORA II; Nav; Lux and Tech pkgs. once I can configure the Limited with the other two packages. I know that it is basically an Overland at that point but cheaper by about 1000 using 2013 pricing. The car will be for the wife...but customized to my ...needs. And hers (advanced technology group). We are getting at least 1% under invoice through her work i(Tier 1 Auto Supplier) and any discounts; incentives; auto show rebates; personal charm that we may secure in the next 1-2 weeks.

Using the price info provided on the first page of this thread you can compare 2014 pricing between all models and options you're considering.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information and Pricing

Got offered 2% under invoice at a closer dealer and we decided to meet and order tomorrow. No other dealer has contacted me and it looks like the one I was working with blew me off. Good thing too is they will take the order with no commitment and if I change my mind, they will just put it on the lot to sell as if they ordered it for their inventory. Talking to my wife tonight to confirm the colors for the exterior/interior and will be able to join the list tomorrow with others.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information and Pricing

I too have two dealers vying for my business. Both have been great and it is going to suck telling one of them I'm getting it from the other guy. Both have already ordered the vehicles to my specs with no commitment. That was their idea, not mine. They both know about the other. I don't know what to do if they both offer the exact same for the new GC and my trade in.
