Specx- I saw your vehicle is being delivered today. Does that mean you will be able to pick it up today, or does the dealer need a day to get it ready for pickup?

Question for the board:

What exactly is involved in dealer make-ready ?

I always thought they just washed it and tossed you the keys. Is that right ?

They also add stickers that are horribly looking and hard to remove.

They have to activate it for customer use. Things like enable the air conditioning system. Fill it with gas. Clean it. Then when you do come in, they should explain how everything works. My salesman even paired my cell phone to the uconnect.

I don't know, but when I took delivery back in 1997 of my 1998 Grand Cheokee, the air conditioner didn't work, so I had to go back to get them to "turn it on".

A lot of prep is actually involved - when we purchased my wife's Subaru Outback, we almost had to come back the following day because no one was available to "prep" the car.

There are jumper settings in the modules to remove the car from demo settings-affects car alarm, AC, radio memory settings etc. oh, and license plate holders.

But yeah, those hideous dealer stickers. And I the car is off the truck(which my wife's car was) they had to remove the protective adhesives, polish/buff the car inside out.

I'm sure there more to it but a lot of the prep is electrical from demo to drive!

I always tell the dealer I will not drive this car off the lot with all of your dealer advertisements on it like those rear stickers or those cheap license plate frames.

I bought a Toyota Sequoia last year (great car BTW) and the dealer had a guy on staff who did nothing but go over the car and answer every question you had, explain every accessory and hook up your phones, garage door access, etc. He spent about 90 minutes with me - but I don't consider that dealer prep.

Two years ago I bought my wife a 4Runner - it was delivered at 4 PM and I picked it up at 6 - I know at least 45 minutes of that was washing/cleaning - I watched him do it.

I am concerned they might accidentally fill mine with gas.
