Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information and Pricing

Some of the BMW X5's use the same Transmission(8HP70) as the new 2014 GC. However, the 3.0L diesel X5 still uses the 6 speed.

From a BMW forum:
Quote:
I haven't been able to gather any updates on any changes that will occur with the 2013 year X5 35ds. With the 2013 7 series getting the 8 speed automatic it seems like BMW is working through the diesel torque stressing the transmission issues that cause the present X535d to have the six-speed. I also can't find build dates for the 2013 X5. Any news? Thanks much.
BMW hasn't been able to get their 3.0L diesel to work with the 8HP70.

BMW has had the 8HP70 in their other cars al least since 2011.

BMW has more 8HP transmissions on the road than anyone.

I have never owned a BMW and never intend to.

If Chrysler goes by the same standards of reliability that BMW goes by,... Well, you get the idea. I'm sure they know BMW hasn't used the 8HP with the diesel. Why they are not using the 8HP90? Why isn't BMW using the 8HP90? IDK, Cost? MPG?

Regardless, if they let me buy the GC CRD with the 8 speed I will still do it. (' getting a 7 year 100,000 warranty.) If they ax the diesel, I will be switching to petrol; at this point, I am in love with the GC.

TUESDAY!

Everything I've seen says it's an optional package with the Overland trim.

It is an option but right now they are not allowing you to build one without the Advanced Tech package in Overland with the diesel. I think you can find that out on the build and price on Jeep.com and milous also confirmed it. Basically they are taking advantage of the "early adopters" to make a bit more money.

TUESDAY!
Having owned 10 BMW's over the past 16 years and currently having two in the garage - or four if you count our two MINI's as BMW's - this does not surprise me. The current X5 (E70 body) is at end of life as production on the replacement starts in early summer with deliveries expected in August. The diesel engine and trans were not updated with the LCI or mid cycle refresh that came with the 2011 model year. At that point BMW was done with with major updates on that body style. It is just riding it out until the new one is introduced which is typical for BMW. I am sure the replacement will have the 8 speed with the Diesel engine.

I am currently torn between a certified X5 35D and new GC because used prices on X5's are dropping and will drop even further once the new body style is introduced while the Jeep diesel is being sold at a significant premium over the gasoline models. If it were not for the other half I would pull the trigger next week but will likely wait another year before purchasing or ordering. Good problem to have I guess

If they drill the holes they'll be replacing the bumper. They have specific instructions to not touch anything other than putting the inspection sticker on it - no wash, no prep, etc. I'm sure I will be there when the vehicle gets there in any case.

I think they're biting themselves in the butt on this one. $4005 up-charge for diesel motor which most were complaining about, now make it so you have to get the advanced tech package for another $1509. On top of all that, lets make us wait and keep putting ordering off and not give any incentives (so far at least). It's getting to the point of not even being worth it. I was once set on the CRD, but now weighing my options again, whether it be just get the petrol for now or a different manufacturer's CRD.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information and Pricing

I'd agree that forcing folks to buy a package they may or may not want at an added price is bad juju (especially given that the CRD is already a heavy investment and not an option on the Laredo).

It personally does not impact me as I was going to a loaded out CRD Overland anyways, but, I can see how this is just more salt rubbed into an open and festering wound for CRD folks.
